According to my wife, our priest says we are supposed to bow to the precious blood of Christ as we pass it (even if we don’t receive).

Which is fine me, but I don’t see anyone who is not receiving the precious blood doing it.

Anyone care to set me straight?

I don’t see anything wrong with it either. I also do it.

I believe the GIRM requires a sign of reverence before one accepts the Eucharist, whether it be under the form of the Host or the Cup.

It does not, to the best of my knowledge, say anything about a sign of reverence to the form not received when one receives under only one form.
I don’t know if your priest actually said that one is to bow towards the Cup even when not receiving, or whether he may have said that one is to bow to the Cup too, meaning that one bows to the Host when receiving, and then bows again to the Cup before receiving that.

The latter would make more sense, and it is possible that someone could misunderstand that one has to bow to the Cup whether or not one receives from it, when all that was being said was that one is to bow to each when one is receiving each…

If your priest is requiring anyone passing in front of the Cup to bow towards it even if not receiving, then it would seem that he is requiring something the Church does not require. Having said that, it doesn’t seem to be something to get one’s nickers tied up about. Since the Church does not appear to require it, it would seem a bit over the top to say that it is necessary. Nice, yes, reverent, yes. Necessary, no.

if you bow when you recieve the Blood of Christ it is better. But if you genuflect before recieving the Blood of Christ it is much better.

If one is not receiving from the cup, there is no need to make the sign of reverence to the chalice in passing. Perhaps the priest is subtly, and incorrectly, using this suggestion as a way of encouraging more communicants to receive under both species.

Thank you for the link. I guess there are no new questions, just new people with old questions.

All of which still leaves open the question of whether or not the pastor actually said that anyone passing the Cup needs to bow to it, or whether, instead, he said that if one receive under both species, one was to bow before each reception.

My guess is that this started with a misunderstanding of what the pastor said. I would suspect that some may not know that they should bow not only after receiving the Host, but again when receiving the Cup, and the instruction was given to do so, but misunderstood.

When the Blood of Christ is offered (Mass over the weekend) I always receive it after the Body so the thought of bowing while passing it up has never crossed my mind. Something to think about and consider if I end up not receiving it on a certain day.
