Hey ya’ll, in case any of you aren’t regular subscribers to America Needs Fatima, here’s an article and petition about a boy who got sent home from middle school for dressing as Jesus for Halloween… americaneedsfatima.org/action/?cc=23
Of course, it’s weird to dress as Him for a day dedicated for scary stuf… but STILL, there’s nothing wrong with him dressing as Our Lord and Savior. To say that he’s “disrupting the education process” is a bunch of hogwash in my opinion.

What a courageous boy. Wouldn’t it be great if small kids could go to school on Halloween dressed as Pope John Paul or Mother Teresa.

They can’t sing even a Christian song at Christmas so I doubt they will allow this.

I’m sure it would be fine to dress up as Satan, Buddha, Mohammed, or any other “spiritual” character.

Was the boy a Christian? I used to work with a former priest who had a lot of animosity toward the Church. At Halloween, he’d always dress up as a priest and wear a phony pocket watch that was measured in centuries and labeled “Vatican Time.”
It was stuck on 6th. century, if I recall. Personally, I hate to see anyone casually portray a religious figure, even with the best intentions, outside of the context of a play or movie. More people wear religious costumes who are not religious and are actually making fun of priests, nuns, popes and Jesus than those who are trying to do them honor. The result is one more chink in the wall of respect.

See the article above. One parent was Catholic and the other Jewish. It looks as if he may be being raised Jewish since it says he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah. Also, as a teacher, I have to agree and disagree with their decision. One one hand, I see how it could disrupt the education process. If you can’t control your students then learning is out the window. On the other hand, they shouldn’t have allowed costumes period. It is SCHOOL not a PARTY! Most people who are not teachers and don’t deal with children on a day to day basis don’t realize that it is very very very easy to have them distracted. And when the disruptions occur, even veteran teachers of 20 + years can’t get anything done. Like I said, schools aren’t there for Halloween dress up, or birthday parties, or the like. They are there for LEARNING.

Mohammed - no way. The Muslims would riot. ANY representation, positive or negative, of Mohammed is blasphemy.

There is never a legitimate reason for dressing up as the Lord as a costume. Some people like dressing in religious garb because they think it is “funny;” I have no doubt that this is what this kid was doing. It is not appropriate.

While the costume is excellent, was it appropriate for him to dress up at all on Halloween and wear it to school? Were there other students dressed for Halloween? In most middle schools, the dress up during school hours on Halloween stops.

Neither article states if the entire school was dressed up for Halloween. It merely states Alex dressed as Jesus and was sent home because he was interrupting the educational process.

[EDIT] I did further research through a link and the rest of the school was dressed for Halloween. Therefore, if they sent home Alex, they should have also sent home EVERYBODY WHO WAS DRESSED FOR HALLOWEEN. wcbstv.com/topstories/jesus.halloween.costume.2.853729.html

I really think by sixth grade, it’s time to stop wearing costumes to school. Our K-8 doesn’t permit costumes past Kindergarten. The kids do not suffer.
