How many times does a Catholic have to explain the Eucharist to a non-Catholic before they understand? This is why I prefer to avoid Non-Catholic sites: Right off a non-Catholic Web site:

its amazing to me, that so many catholics here DO show that they are not fools who blindly believe in something, and who can so many times issue common sense, but yet in some areas, throw all that out the window and believe in something that is so far wrong and out there, one would HAVE to throw all common sense out the window.
the subject, the Eucharist.

now before i go even further, let me halt all the would be critics who just read to find error, without reading to see if they can even find any truth or understanding. dont think by replying, that the above statement can be used(against me) to say that “sure you believe in God, thats out there in human terms” or “the creation of the earth in 6 days, sure people would say that is foolish” etc etc(or similar silly replys that are off topic and subject). because you will find that all these issues and many more, can be proven without doubt, either from scripture or from Gods creation etc, in prayer, through the spirit of understanding, and with some common sense and sound judgement.
the Eucharist however, this is a unique subject. if you want to raise these issues, then great, open a new thread on the board. thats what its there for

i say unique, because the RCC itself attach that the Eucharist:
The Eucharist is a complex mystery. None of us—no matter how learned, no matter how holy—can fully grasp it. The Holy Spirit helps us to hand on to the next generation what we have received from the generations before us so that “the Church constantly moves forward toward the fullness of divine truth” (Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, #8).

well, lets pull a scooby do, and see if it can be solved.
first, lets look at the two sides.

While the Catholic catechisms quote the passages that speak of Christ dying once, they also teach that the priest miraculously transforms the bread and wine into Christ’s real body, and that Jesus is then sacrificed anew. “The blood is real blood (it looks like wine and tastes like wine at Mass, but it is truly the Blood of Christ.”

without exception biblical Protestants teach that the sacrament is not a renewal or a revisitation of the bodily sacrifice of Christ. Rather it is a remembrance and a memorial use of symbols(bread/wine) blessed by God to the benefit of the humbled believer.

This contrast is far more than a controversy of words. It goes to the very heart of the difference between Catholicism and Protestant Christianity. Protestant faith denies that the church has the power to perform the mass’s “miracle of transubstantiation,” and it further denies that the Lord’s Supper’s purpose is to see accomplished the death of Christ all over again.

scriptures to note are:
1 Corinthians 11:24 1 Corinthians 11:28 1 Corinthians 11:26 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Matthew 26:26-28 Mark 14:22-24 Luke 22:19-20 John 6:53-onward.(please take the time to read, and i urge you to read before and after, to get context!)

so what is this mystery? the main area to focus on is the transubstantiation. lets use some common sense and logic. if the bread, after transubstantiation is still bread i.e it looks like it, it smells like it, it has the same energy levels as it did before, its molecular make-up is exactly the same, and basically has no variation or change in any way, then it is still bread. you can argue using what ever means to try and explain how that bread is now flesh, but please tell me how. its a mystery as your church says, it just is.
now earlier i commented on common sense, so will you start to use it? is not something that dosnt change in any way what so ever, at all, a symbol? i have just given rational reasons for it, that have been and can be proven correct. but its still his flesh im sure you are saying.

so lets tackle it from another approach. the Eucharist is a sacrifice, specifically that of Christ again and again:
A Catholic mass is by definition the sacrifice of Christ (Catechism 1322, 1338). The Baltimore Catechism (Confraternity Edition of 1949) says, “Christ gives us His own body and blood in the holy Eucharist first, to be offered as a sacrifice commemorating and renewing for all time the sacrifice of the cross” (Catechism 356).

so scripture, sheds its light once more to say:
“Nor did He [Jesus Christ] enter heaven to offer himself again and again…”
-Hebrews 9:25 (NIV) (see Hebrews 9:25-10:18)

so why a sacrifice again and again? the verse above isnt in code, or difficult to understand. read it for yourself. maybe part of the mystery is that Jesus didnt enter heaven in the first place??? could help explain the mystery. but we know that Jesus did go to heaven, because scripture teaches he is at the side of God.

what i see, is a pattern of “Mystery” only due to grave error and lack of understanding as to what communion is actually for and what it is.
both scripture, and reality prove the RCC version of communion to be a Mystery only to those who believe in error and have a blind faith in the men who pass on this error. men who tell you that failure to believe, failure to accept means you cannot get close to Christ, you cannot “recieve” him. a mystery, that directly, or in directly helps keep the RCC in control over people.
the mass, i.e the sacrifice of Jesus Christ all over again, is wrong. the mystery is not so much how, but why you still accept it as right, when the light of Gods word shows it for the heresee it really is. to think that Jesus has to come down and be sacrificed all over again, again and again, “offered as a sacrifice commemorating and renewing for all time the sacrifice of the cross” as if the cross needs renewed!!!
so again, i add this verse:

“Nor did He [Jesus Christ] enter heaven to offer himself again and again…”
-Hebrews 9:25 (NIV) (see Hebrews 9:25-10:18)

open your eyes, because its the darkness that makes it a mystery.

i challenge you, in the name of Jesus Christ, to think long and hard about what it is that the RCC claim to happen, and ask yourself this…

“Do i honestly accept, that Jesus Christ, the son of God, has to come down time and again, every mass, even though: “Nor did He [Jesus Christ] enter heaven to offer himself again and again.” Do i honestly accept that Jesus needs to come down again and again, as if the one sacrifice was not enough.”

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE WHO TRAVEL THE ROADS AND PATHS OF THE NON-CATHOLIC WEB SITES AND FORUMS!

I broke my own rule and have been posting on one of the prominent a-C forums. It is as bad as ever, and I still notice that we Catholics are there in force while we attempt to defend the faith. The level of incivility and rhetorical commentary is (as they say on the street), “off the chain”.

We are still supporting people who revile our most holy faith and who refuse to discuss, debate, or dialog in charity. I think it’s time that we rethink our presence among them.

Some of them have come here as well, but are only slightly better here than there and that I think is only because our CAF Mods don’t play.

Is it time for another boycott? I think so…

I’m in Blackie, I have noticed that lately with a lot of threads discussing a certain person; there has been a board swarm.

I would point out that the vast majority of us (myself included) are grossly underqualified both in authority and spirituality to go to place intrinsicly hostile to the faith. But of course everyone is the exception.

I would suggest that no one undertake such an endeavor without the guidance and approval of a priest or spiritual advisor, as unfashionable an idea as that sounds.

I have not been to any non-Catholic site since Easter and I echo Scottgun’s comment. I possess neither the indepth knowledge nor the oratory skills to interact with those whose minds are closed and attitudes are hostile. I would rather visit this site and learn from those significantly wiser than me than go to a non-Catholic site and misrepresent our faith and doctrines.

Just curious, why would anyone want to visit an anti- Catholic website in the first place? I never waste my time by visiting such
garbage on the web.
There are those that have come to these forums and testified that they were shown the truth of the Catholic church through the Catholics who persevered with charity at such sites.

That’s a GREAT reason to go, spreading the truth of Christ to those who are confused and separated from the fullness of Truth.

God Bless,
Maria

I go there sometimes as well, but just lately it seems to have reached the point of diminishing returns.

Not because they don’t throw up their hands and say they want to convert, but just because it seems like the vast majority are just plain old nasty. All I get is a load of vitriolic rhetoric and on one forum the admin is as nasty as anyone else can be.

On that same forum she often tells Catholics “If you don’t like it. Leave!” and I’ve been seriously thinking that perhaps I should just grant her wish. I love CAF and the even discussion field that I think the Mods here work so hard to maintain for us. It’s just something that I’ve been thinking about. After all, Our Lord is the one who said.

**1) Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words: going forth out of that house or city shake off the dust from your feet.
  1. Mark 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you; going forth from thence, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony to them.
  2. Luke 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off even the dust of your feet, for a testimony against them.
  3. Luke 10:11 Even the very dust of your city that cleaveth to us, we wipe off against you. Yet know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand.**
And the apostles seem to have taken Him seriously:
**
Acts Of Apostles 13:51 But they, shaking off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium.**
Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum,

To everything there is a season. And different strokes. My wife even is the only Catholic in a Christian women’s group.
Great work!! 🙂 Seems to me that most times a calm explaination of our faith amongst nonCatholics stands a better chance of being understood and therefore more beneficial than a bare knuckles defense aimed at virulent anti-Catholics bent soley on attacking the faith. There are times (seasons) however, when a strong defence is necessary especially when others who are watching the defense may be scandalized if no such defense is offered.

I don’t think I could express it better myself. 👍

BTW, though I will drop by those two a-C forums from time to time to just see what is being said, (since some of the members there are also members here as well), I have long since ceased to post on either one and frankly, I don’t miss it at all.
