I am starting to feel that God is calling me to stop buying products made in China, because of the human rights and religious freedom issues (such as). Is anyone else out there doing/thinking of doing this?

God Bless You. You’re doing the right thing. Also many exported Chinese products are produced by forced labor.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and wanted to do the same but it might actually hurt the people we want to help more.
I was sickened a few years ago with a newspaper picture of a little boy laying in the gutter dead, and everybody walking past his little body and no-one giving a damn about him.
We here are swamped with Chinese goods, and I do think it’s immoral to buy them while these outrages continue.

Steven Mosher of the Population Research Institute has asked people to boycott Chinese made products, because of the forced abortion policy.

I think he suggested putting them in a trolley then weed out anything made in China when you get to the cash register and tell the retail assistant that you are sorry but you refuse to buy anything made in China because… LOL

Dont you think this is a tad unreasonable since so many of our goods are made in China?

Blind Sheep, My Dad has been railing about this for years. If we buy him a shirt for Father’s Day it better not be made in China for the first thing he checks is the label on the collar.

I found a made in USA.org (I don’t remember if it were one word or separated by dashes or hyphens) site which had links to other sites. Is there a one-stop-shopping site for made in America/USA (or at least Taiwan or Japan–maybe Korea, but which Korea not to mention both are up to no good either being communist or cloning embryos) products.
I understand New Balance is made in the USA. Make sure, but I think that’s true. I wish LDI, ALL or HLI would put out a list of products made in the USA or ones not made in China.

Been boycotting China for quite some time now. Mostly on how they treat women, in particular pregnant ones.

I have never really looked at how much of the stuff i buy is actually made in China, but i will from now on. You don’t know what you can do until you look into it first, and i can tell you that much of the stuff we get from China is not stuff we NEED, so much as want. You can get good cheap clothing from a thrift store or garage sale. You can avoid buying trinkets from wal-mart. Even if there are some NEED items that China makes that you just can’t avoid buying, you can still cut back. I think we need to look at how hard it would actually be to boycott Chinese made goods before giving up. 👍

I think a China boycott is a good idea, but it’s a little too late. If you boycott, hopefully you’ll never need a pair of tennis shoes, small appliances (toasters, waffle irons, coffee pots, etc), any toys for your children or your pets, most anything in your local hardware store, or Wal-Mart, or K-Mart, electronics, such as tv’s, radios, dvd players, vcrs, etc. also power tools and most hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers etc. In short, they really have us where they want us. Most of the brands on the products are old familiar U.S. brands. If you refuse to buy anything that is Chinese made, it’s going to take you a awfully long time to do your Christmas shopping.

Is there a 1 stop place for buying products made in the U.S. by non-abortion and cloning funding companies?
Also, does it do any good to return products you bought that were made in China? I mean, stores buy more to meet the demand. Of course, if you return one, that’s one more sale before the product requires more ordering.
Thanks!

Oh man,I thought my husband was the only one who did that!

Do we boycott French fries because the French did not agree with our policy over Iraq?

Try boycotting the Vatican Because our Beloved JohnPaul II opposed our concept of just war?.

More useful will be to write to your representative to bring up the issue with the Chinese, that we are concerned about certain issues .If you have friends who invest in China ask them to show the Chinese managers the higher ethical our religion possess & we are above dollars & cents.

One of the participants mentioned that the reason why one should boycott chinese products is the treatment of woman.

Most of the world treat woman badly ,most of the countries where we import our petroleum are governed by Islamic countries where woman are relegated to their homes…boycott them?

Japan where woman are expected to smile & kowtow to the customers …boycott Sony products & Hondas?

Americans have shown great love & compassion as they have adopted a lot of chinese babies esp.little girls ater the news about the atrocious condition in chinese orphanges was published a few years ago.

Solution to global or local conflicts is always through love not through threats & conjoling as our Lord taught us.

To the previous poster: I chose to boycott China because of their government’s policy of forced abortion and infanticide, in addition to their communism and oppression of Chinese Catholics. I do not want my dollars going to fund infanticide.
-Update-
I’ve had a heck of a time doing my Christmas shopping! I’ve really had to shop around, and sometimes pay twice as much, but it’s worth it. Knowing the purchase of a toy, a Christmas tree, or even a nativity set was helping fund infanticide would really put a damper on one’s Christmas spirit, KWIM?
I don’t think buying Chinese products helps the Chinese people. It helps the government that oppresses them and may one day oppress us also, if we go on blindly pouring money into it.

There’s an organization called the Cardinal Kung Foundation that covers the oppression of underground Catholics.

BTW Did I read correctly that the Vatican recognizes China and not Taiwan? Why is that? Chiang Kai Shek was no angel but Taiwan stopped oppressing at one point, I think. China keeps oppressing people in the “people’s” republic of China (which people?).

Forced infanticide still occurs in China especially in rural areas but in the cities there is a freeing away from the one child policy as China develops.

In fact China is one of the developing countries that will face a greying population similarly to the west.So there will have to reassess their one child policy as Singapore is forced to revise their population limitation policy.

For your information the Billing`s method of natural family planning approved by our church is now widely practised in China & China is the number 1 practioner of this method in the world,so the face of forced abortion is only a partial picture of the situation in China, rather than faulting China we must ask the the quetion why should there be 1 abortion for every 2 live births in United States, have we not gone beyond them…in this aspect.

Our Democratic nominee is a practising Catholic but who believe in the freedom of choice ,should we not question them more…The fight agaist infanticide & forced abortion is not a problem just out in China only but it is within our midst.

Thanks for the info. but if they oppress religious organizations that are no threat to the government other than that they don’t subscribe to the state rules over all facetsw of one’s life, they are still on my naughty list. All countries allow evil things like abortion and euthenasia. Some require evil things like phamacies selling contraceptives. Any enemy of the Church is an enemy of mine–at least regarding organizations and governments.
I hear France doesn’t allow people to walk around with religious imagery. Yikes! Is that not reminiscent of history lessons about the French Revolution or just about anything going on in the world from the late 18th century to the early 20th?

This forum is a catholic forum our agenda should be non other than to promote Christ`s agenda.

I would like to propose that those who do not choose to boycott chinese product put aside whatever saving & consider giving to your neighbourhood charity,EWTN,Catholic Answers or even the Katrina rehabilation fund, let some good come out of this Christmass holidays.

merry Christmass everyone.

This isn’t particularly germane to the topic, but i wanted to tell you that just because Islamic women stay home and raise their own children instead of paying other people to love them doesn’t take away their dignity. There is a lot in the Muslim culture that does that, like making women walk 10 paces behind their husbands in public, but as a housewife i resent your belittling of my occupation. Furthermore, society would be a lot better off if people would realize that a child isn’t an item on a to do list, but a lifelong commitment that requires more than 3 hours a day. It’s the ONLY occupation that truly matters. Societies have survived without any number of types of employment as long as the children were brought up well.
And China has 25 million men who will never have wives because they were all aborted in infancy. Stopping their evil will take prayer, letter writing to Congressmen, and people willing to do without cheap electronic junk to quit financing their murderous government policies.
