Excuse my ignorance: What is Kabbalah?
A new-age craze popular in Hollywood (this is the “junk” Kabbalah characterized by the red string on someone’s wrist). The “real” Kabbalah that another poster mentioned is a heavy-duty Jewish religion (?) Maybe a better way to put it would be a heavy-duty version of Judaism? Only a few people are true Kabbalists as it is supposedly much higher than the average person and involves decades of study. “Junk” Kabbalists on the other hand believe in getting power from just having certain sacred objects in their house, learning a few phrases, etc. If you see someone with a red string on their wrist, say a Hail Mary for them 🙂

I was surprised to see that Lindsay left Regis and Kelly high and dry yesterday. They were about five minutes into their live show when they were informed that she wasn’t there as their scheduled guest for the day! Ms. Lohan’s handlers blamed the no-show on “food poisoning.”

This is such a shame, for she is a talented young lady is throwing it all away. Her partying, her wild life, her hanging out with Tara Reid (who has all but thrown her career down the drain), and her unreliability are all adding up to an eventual life breakdown.

Entitlement attitude. Above reproach. Absence of parental mentoring.

I read in an interview that she wanted to be known as a performer and not as a party girl. I hope she goes through with that.

Well, “performer” can have all types of interprtations. Aren’t exotic dancers"performers"? She just needs to live in the real world, but since that won’t happen I suppose we can at least appreciate that she is not a complete nutcase like Tom Cruise.

well by gosh I’d boycott her if i knew who the heck she is!
ROFL. That’s great.

Sometimes I’m afraid that the only reason some people know anything about a figure in pop culture is because someone has told them to boycott that figure, and then they go telling someone else to boycott them. I’m not accusing anyone here of that, but it seems to me that the decision to boycott a movie is best left to individual conscience. For example, my conscience tells me that the picture on the cover of the CD is a good reason not to buy that CD. If she puts out another CD with an unobjectionable cover and unobjectionable, uplifting, beautiful music, I wouldn’t boycott that CD based on the religious beliefs of the individual putting it out. (I really don’t like Lindsay Lohen’s music or singing voice, so I doubt that would ever happen.) If she appears in a good film that promotes good values, I wouldn’t boycott that film.

It reminds me of people who refuse to do business with gays or atheists or divorcees or whoever because they disagree with their beliefs or lifestyle. I understand if they just prefer to do business with and support fellow Catholics, but too often it seems that they think sinners don’t have a right to work and make a living. Getting a lot of like-minded people to refuse to buy groceries from a shop owned by a gay man is not going to change that man’s mind or heart. To me, it just seems like judgment and punishment meted out by people who don’t have the right to judge or punish.

I didn’t mean to hijack the thread or anything, it’s just that I see a parallel here that I think deserves thought. Also, I certainly don’t mean to presume that I know anyone else’s motives, and I don’t want to insult anyone. By all means, follow your conscience if this is what it tells you. I’m just saying that I see it a different way.

Maybe she just had food poisoning. I don’t doubt that she parties, as that’s pretty well documented, but you can’t just assume that she flaked out on a talk show appearance because of a hangover or irresponsibility. Give her the benefit of the doubt.

Leading a very public life invites complete strangers to make judgment calls like this, but let’s remember that none of us actually knows this young woman personally and that press coverage doesn’t always present a complete picture. We can pray that she returns to the Catholic faith and starts to live a life that clearly glorifies God, but scrutinizing and criticizing her private life on a message board doesn’t help anyone.

The lyrics in ‘Beautiful Life’ on her new cd refers to God as a female.

The other lyrics seem okay, but I didn’t read them very closely.

I often hear the question "Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan?"

So who do you prefer? 😃

I prefer Lindsay. I think she’s a better actress and singer. But I think I like Hilary as a person better. She’s sweet and nice! I recently watched a Lizzie McGuire episode and thought it was a cute show. And Hilary doesn’t have all the drama that Lindsay has in her life.

Umm…St Teresa of Avila? 😛 Seriously, though, I like Lindsay Lohen’s acting better. (Mean Girls was a fun movie.) I might just be biased, though, because I think the character of Lizzie McGuire is a back-talking little brat. That was my first experience of Hilary Duff, so it kind of makes me inclined to dislike her other projects.

I’ve heard Lindsay sing live on TV and she’s not as good as she sounds on an enhanced recording, that’s for sure…Hillary I think as far as singing goes is better. But I think Lindsay is a better actress.

I always thought Lizzie McGuire was a cute show though. Always learning a good lesson in the end and all that stuff. A little girl my friend babysits loves it.

Hilary Duff never sings live, so major props to Lindsay for singing live! Also, you can’t expect Lindsay Lohan- a Hollywood teenager- to be a role model to your children. She is very talented.

Lindsay Lohen is from my home town of Merrick. A couple of years ago she was at my former Parish Cure’ of Ars. All she did was play her gameboy and snip at the people she came with.

On a better note my children and my friends children were mortified by her behavior at Mass and she lost potential fans.

 What are her parents thinking, letting her bring her gameboy to Mass? Any child old enough to operate one doesn’t need toys in church!!

Just how old was she when she was at Mass playing the GameBoy? Geesh, her onscreen persona certainly seems the polar opposite of who she really is, but isn;t that what acting is all about (in addition to reinventing yourself)?

Thanks for letting us know! Let’s just hope (and pray) that one day she learns how to use that Rosary and be a REAL role-model for our youth!
Amen!

I thought she was past the whole kabbalah thing. I saw in a few interviews where she said she tried the whole kabbalah thing for a while and then realized it wasn’t for her. I don’t know if she’s been wearing the little red string lately, but I saw and read these interviews months ago.

I saw a clip of Hilary Duff singing live…

The cover of Lindsay’s new cd bothered me, but have any of you seen the music video ‘Confessions of a Broken Heart’? She seems to be praying the rosary, and so is her sister (that is her sister, right?), and her mom. It doesn’t make sense to me that she is involved with Kabbala but prays the rosary.
First of all, it’s acting. That doesn’t make it real. Have you seen all those religious movies where the actors pray? Is it real? NO. Do they pick on them? No.

And that rosary is just like a fashion accessory. I wear a cross necklace sometimes. Does that make me religious? Just because I wear something that I like doesn’t mean I need to be boycotted by all the jews, or the catholics, the christians or whoever.

It’s ridicolous the Catholic’s/traditionalist/conservatives freak over very innocent things. Let them be. If we boycotted every single thing, we wouldn’t change. We live in time of expression/art… don’t silence us.
