If Michael Moore wins any award at the Oscars and Mel Gibson and The Passion of The Christ do not, would you boycott the Academy Awards Show from now on?

I’ve stopped watching the Oscars years ago. They mean nothing! 🙂

I already do boycott them. Its just another gathering (out of many) of self absorbed people patting each other on the back. The winners are picked more for what they stand for rather then their performances.

Ditto!

Ditto that Ditto!
“I second that emotion!”

Of course I wouldn’t boycott the Oscars. I am a Mel Gibson fan, the only Michael Moore movie I’ve seen is Roger and Me (made a few points, but boring). But I don’t agree with the St. Mel bit either. He put together a fine movie, but I believe he would agree that it’s not his name that should be spoken with reverence.

The Academy does what they do. Sometimes it’s a good show, sometimes it’s not.

My sentiments exactly!! DOWN WITH THE OSCARS!! And The Grammys as well!!

Actually, that Tim Robbins/Susan Sarandon debacle a few years back did it for me. gag

We will watch the Oscars only if the Passion of the Christ is nominated!

I do not watch the Oscars, but I do enjoy the tabloids when they show what everyone was wearing. Most of the time the gowns are gorgeous, but some of them are just downright CRAZY! :whacky:

I normally don’t watch the show anyway. Most of the nominees are usually from movies I didn’t and/or won’t see, and it’s not that entertaining. I’ll check the paper the next day to see if anybody or any movie I like won.

I might watch it only **if **The Passion of the Christ is nominated, not because I believe it will win [and I seriously doubt it would], but only because I’m interested in seeing the reactions of the audience to an openly spiritual film competing against an array of secular Hollywood films, something we have yet to see happen.

Gerry 🙂

Imagine the Ratings if The passion of the Christ and Farenheit 911 are banging heads for best picture?

I wonder if the academy sees the genius of this.
Probably not they will have Michael Moore’s film verses 4 other Sodom and Gamora films same ol same ol and low ratings.

Or they could tease us with the former scenario and Moore wins and we huff and puff becuase they teased us for ratings. We are the suckers and Hollywood wins.

Whatever the scneario I don’t see Mel Gibson winning anything.

On target.

Remember the Gospel reading from last Sunday? Those who exalt themselves shall be humbled, and those who humble themselves shall be exalted.

Look no further than this brood of vipers for a real-life illustration of the Gospel message.

I already ignore the Oscars & have for years. It’s a meaningless popularity contest, the popularity being decided by a little self-appointed clique of people who are totally self-absorbed & completely out of touch with the real world. Even before “The Passion”, I saw way too many truly deserving movies get passed over & often not even nominated when truly inferior ones were rewarded.

My personal opinion is that “The Passion” is a superior work of art and should sweep nearly all the categories, and that is detached from my own powerful emotional reaction to it (a whole other story). I also don’t place Gibson on a pedestal because I never liked much about his earlier work, but I greatly admire what he did and he truly deserves the best director award. That being said, I fear that Michael Moore and his big mouth will carry the day just because he’s capitalized on the intense political conflict in this country.

You know, it’s so funny, I agree with all of you. The more I have come into my faith, I am a convert since 2002, I see through the hollywood facade. They all just toot each others horns and talk about themselves. I was so duped as a youngster and young adult into thinking these were the most special and to be envied people. Thank God I see things differently, but so many don’t!

I wonder if they will even nominate PofTC after they sat there and condemned Gibson for wanting to make this movie. I wonder if they will like somebody said at least for the make up.

Peace

I haven’t watched that waste of time show in years. Nothing turns me off more then Hollywood celebrating itself. Yuk.
But I am curious as to whether Mel, et al, will take any awards.
As for the rest of them - I couldn’t care less… hollywood - harumph!
