I can’t undertand why so many play political dodge ball and just be honest and say it is another concession to the feminists.

If he wanted something special, it would have been better to wash the feet of the various orders of nuns in a seperate ceremony apart from the men.

Exactly, and we should pray for this weak bishop.

Our priest washes the feet of the second graders as they will be receiving their first communion this easter.

It will be something that will be with them the rest of their life just like the apostles.

Some people on the thread imply that people who support the washing of women’s feet on Holy Thursday are women who want to become priests. That is a gigantic leap. There are plenty of faithful Catholic men and women who deeply love their faith and support Orthodox teaching, but do not see the need to only wash men’s feet. We are all Jesus’ diciples.

Then they wouldn’t be supporting Orthodox teaching.

Every time I point out how weak O’Malley is someone posts that he really is a nice guy and has a lot on his plate. Sorry, I disagree.
Weak? Seriously?

The archbishop is closing over 60 parishes! He came into an archdiocese that has a difficult financial situation and has been deeply hurt by the abuse scandal. From there he has acted to restore credibility by making financial records more open, and he has taken the very difficult but decisive action of closing parishes and selling the archbishop’s residence.

This man is doing God’s work, and I for one am extremely proud of him.

Do you live in Boston? Where do you derive your opinion that he is weak? Have you ever heard one of his homilies? I have heard him speak on many occassions, and his words are powerful and timely.

James Akin explains it in his book ‘Mass Confusion’.

washing of women’s feet…conflicts with the rubrics for the Mass of Holy Thursday, which state,

…the washing of feet follows the homily. The men (veri) who have been chosen…

The Latin term used above indicates males only. When the term veri appears in Church documents, it indicates that the text is making a requirement for males and not females. If the text intends to include either a male or a female in a requirement, it uses a different Latin term, such as homo, which is not gender specific.

Then they wouldn’t be supporting Orthodox teaching.
As I understand from the above post, the washing of only men’s feet is written in the rubrics for the Holy Thursday Mass, which “indicates” by a term in Latin that the requirement is for males.

I hardly think that means a person who supports the washing of women’s feet on Holy Thursday doesn’t support Orthodox teaching. It is not a teaching of the Church, an official position, that women’s feet should never be washed. That is clear from the Vatican’s response to Archbishop O’Malley.

It is however, official Church teaching that abortion is always wrong, the Church does not have the authority to ordain women, homosexual acts are a sin, etc. These are the core Catholic beliefs I meant when I refered to Orthodox Catholics.

I follow him and many bishops. Has he spoken out about, or disciplined Kerry or Kennedy? Has he allowed a well known VOTF member to be included in diocesian activities, instead of disciplining him?

Has he caved into feministas?

The answer is yes to these and much more that could be said. He may be a nice guy, but as for Shepherding, there is much room to grow.

I disagree, if it’s in the rubrics it is an official position… However, if is written in the rubrics and one doesn’t agree would that be disobedience?

O’Malley does not want to offend feminists, but he has no problem offending the rest of the faithful.

Yep, they’ll remember it all right…

**BUT, me smells the odor of ppppppppediphile **!

Was it quite by “accident” that the 12 apostles were men?? Was Mary there at the Last Supper?? Mary Magdaline?? Martha??

No, to all questions. None of them were, were they??.

Does then that diminish Mary’s role in the salvation of souls?? Doe it diminish the role of women in the Church?? NO. again.

Look, how that night before He was betrayed happened, HAPPENED as it was supposed to!! Isn’t that what Holy Thursday Mass is supposed to impart to us?? Christ was a man. The apostles were men. He humbled Himself before 12 MEN.

It is less about the sexual equipment of the apostles than it is about WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

I would not allow my child to get a foot massage from a grown man, ever.

Isn’t there a bit in Pulp Fiction about this??

I love that…"Doing God’s work by closing 60 of God’s places of worship". That has to make God ecstatic.

** The New Springtime has arrived in …BOSTON!**

**
“powerful and timely” is in the EAR of the listener…thus relative to what?? St Paul, the Gospels, or J. Kerry or maybe T. Kennedy?

ps. Satan took residence in 1948 in Boston, MA.

Yes I do live in Boston! Plus he is closing my Church with that lying dog Bishop Lennon!
I feel bad for him but he has handled things miserably. first he should have gotten rid of all of Laws hold overs. they are causing most of the trouble. Second he has let the Voices of the UnFaithful take over. He tried to put his foot down but evertime the howled he buckled. He doesn’t seem to have this problem with the faithful whoes Churches are closing.
Yes Bishop Lennon is beyond the pale. He told us praying doesn’t help so give it up! Can you imagine a priest saying not to pray never mind a so called shepard? I have lost total confidence in the American Church.

Isn’t my Church beautiful?
Kathy

OOOOOPPPPPSSSS!
I see from your other posts that you are already a TRAD Klingon.
You’re immediately forgiven.

Carry on. Try death threats. (That’s just what I’d do.)

Good points. The bishop just seems weak to me. Why is it that the liberals complain and get what they want. The orthodox beg for adherence to the standards given us by Mother Church and get nowhere.
