Braces and Communion Problem

Today I was serving at Mass and as I received Our Lords Body I chewed quite quickly because I knew I was going to be receiving from the chalice in a few seconds. But now I think fragments of our Lords flesh could be wedged in my braces. I haven’t brushed my teeth but I did get a tooth pic/ cocktail stick and start removing what I believed to be the fragments I then dipped this stick in water removed any fragments off of it and drank the water.
Though I think there still could be some fragments in my braces. Does anyone know how I could remove them? Can I brush my teeth with paste?

Drink water, it should dissolve whats in your mouth.

As long as you don’t brush immediately after receiving communion, I don’t see why you can’t. Any fragments would dissolve naturally after some time in your mouth. Since you used a toothpick and drank water, you are fine.

This situation has to occur to some degree with anyone who has braces or dental work (and even those of us who don’t). Common precautions if you are aware of something stuck, are all that would be reacquired. You took those precautions, so you are fine. Don’t over think this or become scrupulous over it or will will become afraid to receive at all.

I second the recommendation to use the toothpick and drink (and swish in your mouth) water, and between those things and the time that has passed any fragment of the host should be gone.

When I had braces (in college!), I would either receive only the host and let it disolve in my mouth without chewing, or, in one case when an unusual kind of bread was used, I only received from the chalice. Obviously it’s a less complete symbol, but you still receive the whole Christ.
