Does anyone know why some Mass readings have short forms [by omitting what’s in the brackets]? Most readings aren’t that long to begin with. Most of the time, in my opinion, the parts to be omitted seem to be what some would consider “politically incorrect” wording (such as in Ephesians 5 - wives submit to your husbands).

Bingo.

In yesterday’s reading for the feast of the birth of Our Lady, there was a lengthy genealogy  that could be left out, and frankly, some priests are afraid of all those names.

We got the short version at yesterdays Mass. I tell ya what I don’t like about ANY shortened down version. To understand, even partly, scripture verses, we need to hear/read the one before and after the one read. Little snippets read during Mass, almost always daily and many times even Sunday, at least to me, are not enough to tie both OT and NT together.

I want to hear MORE of God’s word during Mass, not LESS. Thank God our priest is fantastic at giving homilies or else NOTHING read during Mass would make much sense.
