NEW YORK - Brad Pitt, ever the social activist, says he won’t be marrying Angelina Jolie until the restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped.

“Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able,” the 42-year-old actor reveals in Esquire magazine’s October issue, on newsstands Sept. 19.
What really pisses me off is that he’s trying to pass this off as such a huuuge sacrifice, but exactly what difference does it make to people like this whether or not they can get married anyway? All it is to them is a fancy title for “we’re sleeping together exclusively for the time being, and possibly living with each other”. And when it’s all done, hey! … just go get a divorce!

And yet I’m sure so many people in America are just going to eat this up like it was some sort of heroic act. “Oh, how courageous…!!” Gimme a break.

Since when does a celeb marriage mean sleeping with each other exlusively?

Translation:

“Ill get married whenever Angelina says I can and in the meantime Ill try to disguise the fact she wont marry me by making some outrageous statement as to why we aren’t married”

LOL well at least that’s what they like for others to think. Guess I’m giving them too much credit.

But, everyone is legally able to marry. He must mean legally able to marry however, whenever and whatever a person wants, lol.

Every man and woman in this country of the adult age is legally able to marry. That’s not the issue

I thought it was a clever way to shut someone up who had asked a question (when are you getting married? Have you given any thought to marriage?) that was none of their business.

I’m not surprised Pitt said that. The sad thing is that I’m sure a lot of his fangirls are hanging onto his every word, and they will take whatever he says to heart.

Sadly Johnny Depp is another one to mention. He’s got two kids with his girlfriend/partner of eight or so years…doesn’t seem like they’ll be marrying any time soon, either.

I’m just sorry we are wasting time discussing this narcissistic, amoral individual. Many in Hollywood have long since abandoned any sense of decency and morality. We should be praying for them instead of concerning ourselves with their antics. JMO.

This is, of course, a blanket statement with no basis in reality since many celebrities remain happily married for decades; just not the ones you hear about on TV and in the tabloids.

Excellent. I approve of this response.👍

I would like to point out that despite the fact that every thread in which a celebrity has dared to express their opinion as though they were some kind of human has a post or 12 like this…they keep on getting posted. I have to question the motivations of the posters in this case. It certainly seems they are not posted for discussion, but simply to, for lack of a better word, rip the speaker a new one.

Actually, everyone has an opinion. The opinions of celebrities are no more or less valid than anyone else’s. They are given the illusion that this is not so. It is. Brad Pitt and my milkman have the same qualifications to comment on the state of marriage in America. No one quotes my milkman.

Pitt’s comments are being quoted widely, because of his celebrity status and the shock value of the statement.

Yes, he is entitled to his opinion, and I am entitled to mine.

His statement makes no sense whatsoever.

Taken literally, he will never get married. Society takes a dim view, both legally and socially to many types of marriages. Let’s grant his wish, so he can marry his mother.

I have read that Johnny has asked his girlfriend Vanessa Paradis a few times to marry him but she won’t, for whatever reason. She is European (French) and I have friends that have lived in Europe and they say that marriage is not something people always do anymore…they might be together 30 years and have 5 kids, but never bother to get married. It’s really quite strange, in my view.

But sorry. Back to the topic at hand. 🙂

Ha ha, this a very creative way to get out of getting married! He gets to be a hero to all the gay casting directors, and other influentials in Hollywood, and at the same time wiggle out of a marriage commitment. Much smarter than Mel Gibson, careerwise.

Way to sacrifice for your cause, Brad. Don’t marry, but continue to sleep with your sex partner and adopt kids. You’re eating the cake that you don’t even have at that point.

What is with celebrities trying this martyr thing to impress people?

He probably wants to just make sure his name stays in the press.

Exactly. This is just one more instance of a celebrity thinking that anyone should actually give a hoot about his opinion. Bah, humbug.

Makes as much sense as saying, “Angie and I will consider having a baby when everyone else in the country who wants to be pregnant is biologically able,” the 42-year-old actor reveals in the October issue of “Male Mothers”, on newsstands Sept. 19.

Sorry, Brad. You will never be pregnant, because your pipes aren’t made that way. As for your other stance, there are receptacles and then there are elimination canals, and you can pretend that it doesn’t matter one way or the other all you want, but the fact is, the institution of marriage exists for the production, care, and raising of children, no matter how much modern man (homosexual, heterosexual, or otherwise) has twisted it into something totally different. Americans, in particular, seem to think marriage exists for their own self-gratification.

As Aretha Franklin once so eloquently stated, however, “It ain’t necessarily so.”

They’re following the wrong god. Whether it’s Brad, or Ben, or Tom & Katie, or Lindsay, or whichever boytoy and bimbette are popular this week, if you worship them like these kids do, you’re still following the wrong god.

I wonder how come the ACLU hasn’t started some sort of campaign to squash the worship of Hollywood stars?

I think it’s less that than the simple fact that people like to state which side of an issue they agree with. Human beings are, like it or not, pack animals, and they like to congregate with other people who agree with them. This is why we have things like churches, civic clubs, sodalities, even political parties. And in less advanced societies, clans and tribes.

The fact that somebody like Brad Pitt makes a statement like this and he gets 12 responses in the opposite direction is merely an indication of the fact that he, like most Hollywood and media types, is out of touch with the vast majority of Americans on these topics—at least on a ratio of 12 to 1, and likely much more.

But then, since Brad, like most Hollywood and media types, thinks that America goes from the Pacific Ocean to Palm Springs, then jumps to Phildelphia and ends at the Atlantic Ocean, it should be no wonder that he is ignorant of, and couldn’t care less about, what the vast majority of Americans think.

Angelina has got him by the go*ads, that’s why they are not married. She wears the pants, he doesn’t.
