Angelina has got him by the go*ads, that’s why they are not married. She wears the pants, he doesn’t.
Exactly! Hes not get married because angelina doesn’t want to. It really is that simple.

And if he does say this, so what? If you are getting adivce on moral issues from a celebrity, you have other problems to deal with.

I think it’s less that than the simple fact that people like to state which side of an issue they agree with. Human beings are, like it or not, pack animals, and they like to congregate with other people who agree with them. This is why we have things like churches, civic clubs, sodalities, even political parties. And in less advanced societies, clans and tribes.

The fact that somebody like Brad Pitt makes a statement like this and he gets 12 responses in the opposite direction is merely an indication of the fact that he, like most Hollywood and media types, is out of touch with the vast majority of Americans on these topics—at least on a ratio of 12 to 1, and likely much more.

But then, since Brad, like most Hollywood and media types, thinks that America goes from the Pacific Ocean to Palm Springs, then jumps to Phildelphia and ends at the Atlantic Ocean, it should be no wonder that he is ignorant of, and couldn’t care less about, what the vast majority of Americans think.
That first paragraph was such a good post.

After that, it raises another question, which is why he has to see eye to eye with most of America. He simply has his own opinion, and people cannot handle that; if they agree with him, he’s their little spokesman. If they don’t, he’s a blowhard. Either way, he’s never a human with a POV.

And a cursory glance over his IMDB profile will reveal that Pitt was born in Oklahoma and raised in Springfield, Missouri.

Actually, everyone has an opinion. The opinions of celebrities are no more or less valid than anyone else’s. They are given the illusion that this is not so. It is. Brad Pitt and my milkman have the same qualifications to comment on the state of marriage in America. No one quotes my milkman.
And it is Brad Pitt’s fault that the media trip over themselves to quote him…how? I can attest that when you are someone people watch, listen to or read, everything you do is scrutinized, repeated, shuffled around and served back to you in a way you may hardly recognize. You’d be surprised how fast the trend mill works on people. Actors, writers, etc are the victims of the gossip rounds, not the creators and carriers out*.

*Someone is going to say it, so it must be pointed out that, yes, obviously sometimes people create the gossip and drama themselves. Sometimes it rains in the desert, too.

We must pray, pray, pray for Brad and Angelina that they will have a radical conversion to the faith. I think that both of them are drawn to idealism–it is just warped. If they were open to the Truth, then I think they could be great saints.

Wealth and fame can be hugh barriers to the work of the Holy Spirit.

I am just picturing Congress in an emergency session right now to try to change this… Common all! Brad has spoken! is this something we should be taking lightly? After all, I am sure it is all about doing what is best for his kids…

Jeepers, Tyler Durden’s actually a better guy than he is. Kowaa ya!

So, what’s he protesting by not bathing?

I read an interview with George Soros yesterday in which he stated that “people want to be entertained and not informed” and that getting their information from TV comedians “is not such a bad source.” Yikes.
Tom Cruise’s baby took up an entire segment of a “news” program yesterday. (are they married yet? Have no idea) Unfortunately, this is what a great number of people find interesting including the utterances of a Brad Pitt who clearly is not looking at the marriage bond as anything of import and depth beyond a trifling legal formality and a glossy wedding photo spread.
Pitt’s “statement of conscience” is laughable. And he doesn’t even realize it.

And it is Brad Pitt’s fault that the media trip over themselves to quote him…how? .
Yes-Brad Pitt, as with most celebrities , have people they pay 100,000s of thousands of dollars a year to make sure that the media trips over themselves to quote him.

(…when are you getting married? Have you given any thought to marriage?)
How soon they forget…Brad married Jennifer Aniston so, at one time, he apparently gave a lot of “thought” to marriage.

As stupid and asinine as Brad’s statement was, I really don’t think it will make a huge dent in the way most Americans think about the subject of Marriage. Let’s look at John Kerry’s campaign. He had celebrities like Ben Affleck rooting for him, a lot of good that did!

I also think that a lot of people, liberal and conservative, can see right through his stance.

well Pitt is not exactly a model of virtue it’s notsurprising he’d say something oike this.
maybe next time he’s gonna say that plants and protozoans should also be given the right to marry.

What really pisses me off is that he’s trying to pass this off as such a huuuge sacrifice, but exactly what difference does it make to people like this whether or not they can get married anyway? All it is to them is a fancy title for “we’re sleeping together exclusively for the time being, and possibly living with each other”. And when it’s all done, hey! … just go get a divorce!

And yet I’m sure so many people in America are just going to eat this up like it was some sort of heroic act. “Oh, how courageous…!!” Gimme a break.
Isn’t that just one of the most ridiculous things you’ve ever heard? Here’s one for ya’, “I won’t eat until everyone can” or “I won’t get medical care until everyone can”. Oh I know, “I won’t receive the Eucharist until everyone can.” Where exactly is the logic in his comment? Sounds like an excuse for someone with commitment issues.

Aside from being divorced, the morality of which is certainly subject to individual beleifs, what has Pitt done to make him an immoral person? It seems, here, that if you are associated with hollywood in any way unless you’re Mel Gibson, you’re a poster child for immorality, sexual deviancy and just plain bad things. I think it entirely fair to call for specific examples, since none ever seem to be forthcoming.

Well being this is a Catholic Forum why would you be suprised if we view the moality of the situation from a Catholic perspective.?Am I to put my faith in a closet only to take it out when I enter a Church lest I offend somene.

Lets look at Mr. Pitt. He started an affair with Jolie when he was fiming Mr and Mrs Smith-at the time he was married to Jennifer Aniston. Thats consitutes adultery. Is that immoral?

He then dumps his wife, moves in with Jolie and impregantes her. Is it wrong to call that immoral? Now he tells us he wont marry her until Homsoexuals can get married. How is a Catholic to view that?

Brad Pitt had a child with a woman who is not his wife…by Catholic teachings, that is immorral. But he may not be Catholic so why would he care about that anyway…

And I don’t hold Mel Gibson to any higher standard than anyone else in Hollywood…he is just as prone to sin as anyone else. I just find it funny that all of Hollywood wants to blackball the guy because of what he said about the Jews (which I do not condone, by the way) but whenever a celebrity openly trashes Christians (i.e. Denis Leary, Bill Maher, Ian MacKellan) nobody says a word.

And when ‘average citizen’ Catholics speak up about it they’re accused of being whiny and trying to stir up trouble. Hypocrisy at its worst.
Certainly much is said abotu Christians by people who don’t know what they are talking about. I would rush, however, to mention that some points they make about some Christians are very valid. Blanket statements however are always incorrect because there is always at least one person who doesn’t fit with the description.

I also want to note two of the people you mentioned as “trashing Christians” are comedians. I’m quite certain they have “trashed” a dozen other religions and groups as well; it’s part of the shtick. Al Franken makes fun of Jews; what was his religious affiliation again?

I don’t follow celebrity news closely; are not the children they have now adopted?

Brad Pitt didnt have this belief when he married Aniston. Obviously, this is him beng MAN-ipulated by Jolie. She has him hypnotized and doing her bidding like Dracula. I’d rather see him not marry her anyway. It’s all gonna end in divorce within a year or two in my opinion.
