More personal attacks – once again, what part of the Constitution has a provision that you get to decide, after the fact, what is legal?
 
The constitution is not the final authority on morality. Such a good little American you are though! 😃

Also, I am talking about morality, not legality. They are different. Abortion is legal. Do you support that too?

Abortion is unconstitutional – the 14th Amendment says no state can deny any person the right to life.

Abortion is murder, pure and simple.

The laws precluding double-dipping in insurance cases are not acts of abortion.

Wow this thread digressed quickly. I am sorry that the law is what the courts of this country go by… they are not always right or fair on the morality scale, but nonetheless, they are the laws. Standard fees in such a suit are about 40% so the lawyer probably got a little more than his share, but come on… if they lost he would have gotten nothing… he took the risk on this suit. As far as big business… yeah maybe they should have covered the medical bills 100% for the rest of her life… but as Eisenhower said… you can’t legislate morality.

What has happened to reading the fine print? That is the responsibility of the insured. I know in my case I did so it held up my pay out for like a month but they did pay out.

mschrank… It isn’t a matter of our choice of secular vs Catholic morality… it is a matter of law. You can’t expect a giant company to choose anything other than the law.

This thread has degenerated to nothing but a series of personal attacks.

I think some thread cleanup is probably in order.

This thread has little or nothing to do with the US Constitution, Traditional Catholicism or Abortion. Yet there are a long series of posts on these topics.

To those people who:
  • Seem unable to contribute to a reasoned discussion on this topic without resorting to personal attacks,
  • Respond to a personal attack by attacking back,
  • Are not able to follow the rules of this forum,
  • Cannot stay on the topic,
    I humbly ask that you refrain from posting on this thread. Take your anger and wrath elsewhere, like an adoration chapel.

:clapping: And people wonder why others choose to leave this site alone. I think this thread is a prime example of becoming so Christian that you forget to be Christian at all. :clapping:
As for the actual topic, her lawyer should have read the fine print and prepared her legally in a way that avoided this mess. Wal-Mart is a business not a charity… they’re just looking out for their best interest. If they gave out a 1/2 mil to every employee who gets hurt or sick they’d have to shut the doors.

Exactly right – this case was a normal insurance case, and settled in court in accordance with the law. There is no reason to attack Wal-Mart for following the law.
 
Personally, I think we need to completely outlaw insurance and insurance companies, and guarantee every citizen some form of basic health care; something like, oh, I don’t know…maybe the same program that members of Congress get on the public dime.

We can easily pay for this by cutting off all foreign aid to everybody else in the world and keeping that money right here at home. Take care of our own citizens first, and then if we have anything left, we’ll see about things like helping North Korea out of it’s latest famine. In the meantime, their old buddies, the Communist Chinese, can help them out.

After all, they were quick enough to help them out in 1950, weren’t they?

You should pay in full because it is the kind and compassionate thing to do. Not cause the law doesn’t say you have to. 😉

And we ought not to take a pharasitical holier-than-thou position attacking people who follow the law. Especially when we’ve lived under that law all our lives and done nothing to change it.
