Muhammad went to visit a town, called Ta’if, to tell them about Islam. The people weren’t interested, and they had their children chase him out by throwing stones at him. Throwing stones at him!!

And the angel of the mountain came to ask Muhammad if he wanted the mountain to fall and destroy this town for what they had done to him. But he said no, and he just prayed for the people, and that their children would be guided to Islam.
How magnanimous of him.

I ask you, do you think angels of God really offer to destroy whole towns because prophets get rocks thrown at them by children? I think the whole idea is absurd.

When the “angel” doesn’t come from God it begins to make more sense.

Good point.

It sounds to me, from what I’m reading here, that ‘moderate’ Muslims are actually poorly catechised Muslims who are weak in their faith.

I wholeheartedly agree!

In the middle–neither too strict, nor too lax. Balanced.

Either too strict, or too lax.
This shows you are being too strict:

I’m giving you one example suggesting that non-Muslims (be they folks like me, you, or Pope John Paul II) can respect Muhammad and the message he delivered, even if we don’t take all of it literally, because it continues to better the lives of people today.

Okay, if what you say were true, how do you explain this:

If Islam is indeed compassionate; then, why did the highest Islamic authority [Indonesian Ulama Council], in the world’s largest Islamic country, condemn the entire Islamic Ummah [World’s Muslims] as “the Invisible Muslims of the world”, when the 2004 Tsunami devastated Aceh, and killed an estimated 280,000 Muslims? After many public protests and several Indonesian Govt. pleas to the OIC countries; Saudi Arabia finally pledged an insignificant 10 million dollars [which have not materialized in full, to-date]. Almost all assistance by way of volunteers, cash and kind were from the Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and Taoists.
Today, even the Bam, [Iran] earthquake victims of 2003 are still living in tents – imagine the cold winters and the hot summers. Where is the Islamic Compassion here? With the high oil prices, a sensible person would think that Iran would flood the victims in Bam with cash. But, the Islamic Govt. of Iran is more concerned with flooding their cash on enriching weapons grade Uranium. Generally, the visible physical evidence proves, the Islamic world could not care less for human life, in their so-called ‘compassion’, even for their own Muslim brothers/sisters, all over the world.
Muslims, generally, claim that Islam is the ‘fastest growing’ religion. But, Muslims do not substantiate any fact to this claim. Actually, the ‘voluminous leaks’ (some public and some in secret for fear of Islamic terror) in Islamic numbers (giving up Islam, add to it high infant mortality, murders, crime, poverty, disease, wars, natural calamities, etc) is so enormous that it is humanly appalling a situation to even contemplate. Almost all Islamic countries are wallowing in cesspools of crime, misery, gender bias, gloom, depression, unhappiness, sickness, decadence, corruption, etc. - truly, a sad state of affairs. (See articles, ‘The Myth about Islam being the ‘fastest growing religion’ and ‘Islam in fast demise’ in this website for proof of these Islamic lies). So much; so that; Muslims flee in droves, from their Islamic countries, for non-Islamic countries; mostly, by illegal means, and especially appealing to Christian compassion, to enjoy the rewards of non-Muslims’ hard labour, with no shame whatsoever. In spite of this generosity of non-Muslims, building a church or a temple in Islamic countries is at the least, next to impossible. The article, “Why did Islam fail disastrously in these countries,” emphasized Islam’s decline, factually."

And yes, this is taken from an article from one of those sites you call hatemongers. How can Muhammad’s message and the religion he founded “better peoples’ lives” as you claim when Muslims aren’t even kind to other Muslims?

Saudi Arabia donated more than 97 million, which is a greater percentage of its gdp than the % donated by the US, although in total dollars, our donations (or at least pledges) were greater.

Can I get an “Amen?” Muslims like to boast about Islamic generosity especially during the Hajj, but it’s all a shell game. Poor Arabs and Muslims are on the verge of going hunger or starvation and nobody cares. It is not only the triumph of globalized Western culture over traditional society that threatens them (Arab), but the ascendancy of Asia. Last week’s food riots in Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East bring the point home. Arabs are hungry because Chinese are rich enough to eat meat, and buy vast quantities of grain to feed to pigs and chickens. If the rise in Asian protein consumption portends a permanently higher plateau of food prices, the consequences are dire for populations living on state subsidies, from Morocco to Algeria to Cairo to Gaza. But it’s ok! Allah provides.

Those of you who think that Muslims are your enemy
I pray for them. And I don’t really think of them as enemy, or ali for that matter. I don’t think of that at all, I just pray for them.
I wonder what you teach your children about Islam?
I don’t teach my child about Islam. Instead I teach my child about the Catholic Faith. When a person knows and recognizes TRUTH, their is a better chance of them recognizing what is false. I don’t waste my time telling her about Islam, if I do, there is precious time wasted when she could be learning about the Catholic faith.

BTW, my daughter just received the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation last night! Could you please say a prayer for her. She is a staunch devout Catholic who is wise beyond her years (14 yrs), but she still needs our prayers. :crossrc: :gopray2: Thanks so much.

Are you serious with your compassion for these people? And to say from a Catholic that Allah provides? Don’t you believe that Christ is the one who provides?
If people here continue to be led into denial about Islam, and how it is a fight to the death with Christianity, we are all in dire straits.
At least I cannot be fooled as well as others here that have PM’d me. People must wake up and see what is happening around them. Islam is NOT a peaceful religion…

As far as I know, hijab is not mandatory for girls under the age of puberty.

But people have little girl hijabs for a couple reasons.
  1. The girls want to look like mommy. They put all sorts of stuff on their head (underwear, pillow cases, etc) to make themselves look like their moms.
  2. It looks cute.
So places will sell small hijabs like the one she is wearing, which are slip-ons, easy to wear, so the girls can wear it to be like their mom. They don’t have to, but they want to.
LOL That is so funny and very cute! Sorry but I couldn’t help but laugh, but it was a good laugh, especially for the first reason you have. I thought the little girl looked so cute in her hijab.

It’s amazing to me that you can actually believe that last line, when Muslims resort to violence at the slightest offense!

Vickie
Has it ever occurred to you that maybe people aren’t acting according to their religious teachings all the time? 🤷
I agree with Amy.

Vickie, do you ever feel that there are Catholics who are not really Catholic? It is frustrating and embarrassing to me that there are people in this world who call themselves Catholic but don’t live out the true Catholic faith. I pray for them especially.

Righteousone:
I have much anger in me and if I could join this holy war, I would. I would do what was done to my Christian brothers and sisters that day in New York to every Muslim I came in contact with.
I am a Muslim. I had no part in 9/11, but mourned with every other American that day and thereafter for the horrible tragedy.

But you would kill me? Blow me up? Frankly, that’s kind of scary.
This is what I mean. It is very frustrating for me to see Catholic people talk like this. This is NOT our faith. This is not proper Christian behavior. Not only that, the name “Righteousone” alone would have me wonder about this person’s faith. What happened to humility?

I agree with Amy.

This brings to mind a conversation I had once upon a time with a co-worker. This is not meant to be a criticism of Islam, merely an observation.

We Catholics are fortunate to have the Holy Father. He is there as the Supreme Head of the Church, guided by God, and we have been promised that no one, not even the Pope, will lead the Church astray. If some segment of the Church starts going their own way, at a certain point, they are excommunicated. They are free to go their own way if they choose, but they are not free to do whatever they choose to do in the name of the Church.

In contrast, Islam has no central authority, no Holy Father, no one to call out those who have seriously transgressed and, if necessary, separate them from the rest of the faithful. So fanatics are free to interpret Islam as they wish, and do violence in the name of Allah, and there is no one that can tell them they are cast out of the ranks of the faithful. It’s unfortunate. Perhaps a mechanism similar to excommunication existed in Islam, some of these extremists would have been stopped long ago.

LaMar:
You need to go see either your priest, or your psychoanalyst, right quickly. Preferably both, but either one will probably be able to help you with this desire of yours.

I wish you peace.
LaMar, easy for you to say as you didn’t know anyone that day…I KNEW ONE WHO DIED THAT DAY AND HE JUMPED OUT OF HIS OFFICE WINDOW. He was one who fell to his death…AND FOR WHAT??? IN THE NAME OF GOD??? I’m sorry but I have NO SYMPATHY for any Muslim. I am done with this thread. goodbye.
I do wish you peace “Righteousone.” I am also very sorry for your loss on that day. 😦 :console:
I cannot understand what it is like to loose someone that way. I am truly sorry. I can’t imagine the pain you have gone through. Your pain is still very evident in your post. I will pray for you and I will ask Mary our Virgin Mother to place you in her Immaculate Heart.

As a Catholic, please consider praying for those Muslims who have their own interpretation of the Islam religion.

Just as there are people who interpret their faith incorrectly, there are also Catholic people who don’t understand what it means to be Christian. It seems that you are one of those people who don’t understand what it means to love as a Christian. We don’t have to sit with them to have coffee or anything like that but we should pray for them and if we ever have the opportunity, we should also reach out to them and show them Jesus in our actions towards them.

Again I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope you know you can pray for the souls of all those people who lost their lives that day. You can also offer up your pain to God the Father and unite your pain with the sufferings of Jesus Christ on the cross. You are in my prayers. :signofcross:

I must apologize for my comments as I hurt inside when I think of 911. I hope you understand. I am really not angry per se, just whenIi think about it which is never…If a Muslim or anyone were to be dying on the street, I would help that person. Again, I am sorry for my comments.
Forgiven. I replied to your other post before seeing this one. I knew there was pain there, I can see it (read it).
As I said before, I am truly sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers.

This thread is now closed due to extremely uncharitable behavior.

Everyone review your methods of debate and next time, please attempt a little more charity.
