No harm in having a conversation. šŸ™‚
Well, it IS making for a more penitential Lent. I gave up alcohol for Lent, and my drink of choice is usually and evening glass of port šŸ˜› So all this discussion of port is driving it home

Ever tried Catherman’s Port by St Julian’s? (Just a quick question. I won’t dwell on it. We can talk about it after Easter šŸ˜‰ )

Yes I have, quite good. I mostly drink Warres Ruby.
Catherman’s was approved as an altar wine back in the 80s. I don’t know if it is still approved. The recipe might have changed, I just don’t know. St Julian’s makes a special altar wine (which they call, surprise surprise, ā€œAltar Wineā€ ;)) which has always been one of my favorites, when I can get it.

And this seems to be an opportune time for a C.S. Lewis quote

ā€œI didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.ā€

I know Anglicans are often using port in their Eucharist. It isn’t approved in the GIRM for Roman use, however.
I’m cradle and every Episcopal Church I have ever been to uses Taylor’s Tawny Port.
