Brave Pope Francis

The Pope has done a truly brave thing which will lose him popularity. He has raised the status of the last Mission Church of St Junipero Serra to Basilica.

I haven’t been a fan of this papacy but I take my hat off to him.

I must say I’m surprised it took LA this long to get a basilica. But it comes at a propitious time.

Here’s an interesting article detailing the long process it took to get the San Buenaventura Mission approved as a basilica, which began way back in 1976, and was pursued in earnest starting in 2011.
