Well… Let’s hope he will have some general competence and other moral virtues in addition to that.

So pro-life he called for the forced sterilisation of the poor or at the very least, shove artificial contraception onto them. That’s a view that’s not even close to being acceptable to many non-Catholic Christians.
And don’t forget his praise of the bloody military dictatorship.

Such praise of politicians is concerning. They’re only human. It’s borderline idolatry. That’s even before we get to the repulsive comments and attitudes of Bolsanaro.

Some of what Bolsonaro favors I can agree with – but his advocacy for sterilization for the poor is not compatible with the culture of life, and I don’t understand why so many Catholic supporters are not even acknowledging that as a problem at all.

If he truly is a lesser of other evils, I’ll keep an open mind, but it’s not right to just gloss that issue over. Anyone who advocates forced sterilizations should not be trumpeted as a champion of the culture of life. Granted, I’d say very few politicians in this world really deserve that distinction, but let’s be honest when giving an assessment here.

I don’t know about this guy but from what I gather Brazil really needs to turn it around. Maybe he will help achieve that.

As for being pro life I would point out sterilization is less evil than abortion. Abortion actually kills a person. Euthanasia kills a person. Sterilization maims a person and deprives then of a fundamental right. But it is still not as bad as murder. So even if he is for sterilization he is far less evil than many prominent polititicans.

He’s far from perfect, especially in his comments. But at least he is not a left-wing socialist, is pro-life and anti-gender ideology.

Plus he has the right idea about fighting crime and corruption, support for gun rights and self defence, privatization and reducing the size of the state.

Yes, this guy is a real prize.

In a June 2011, interview with Playboy , Bolsonaro said that “I would be incapable of loving a gay son,” and added that he would prefer any gay son of his “to die in an accident…”

“Methods [of birth control] have to be provided for those who, unfortunately, are ignorant and have no means to control their offspring. Because we [as upper middle class] are able to control ours. Poor people don’t control [theirs].”

Brazil does not need legislation specifically targeting homophobia, because “most homosexuals are murdered by their respective pimps at hours when good citizens are already asleep.”

It definitely takes more than saying you are pro-life to be a good leader.

Whatever his faults are, those without sin should cast the first stone. Has one ever voted for pro-choice, pro-planned parenthood politicians and enabled the murder of innocents? There’s two sides to the coin.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Folks defending a guy who stated that the poor should be sterilized.

I mean, on a Catholic forum.

What can one really say?

Bolsonaro has long campaigned in Congress to loosen laws around sterilization, for example by removing the requirements for the person to be over 25 and to have consent of their spouse.

One of the candidate’s sons, Rio de Janeiro city councilor Carlos Bolsonaro, made a video this week to defend his father against “ridiculous” media assertions that his promotion of sterilization targeted poor people specifically.

“Jair Bolsonaro has a bill to make it easier to get tubal ligation or a vasectomy, because there are numerous bureaucratic hurdles today,” he said. The presidential hopeful “wants to give this opportunity so that people can have family planning.”

On a Catholic forum? Well, it sounds like the Bolsonaros have their own version of what happened.

I actually thought, in countries like Brazil and yes, Nicaragua and El Salvador too, abortion is basically illegal.

Bolsonaro made a pact with Evangelicals. Perhaps, he is seeing things different now anyway. It’s not that uncommon for politicians to make deals. Even said to be leftist, Amador Lopez in Mexico made a pact on social issues with some conservatives in Mexico. I don’t know if that situation has changed. Bolsonaro said he would rule by the Constitution and Bible. I believe we are told to be trusting of others.

When one calls the work of pro-lifers “garbage” per the website “lifesitenews”, What can one really say?

Bolsonaro has been called the “Tropical Trump”. But it would be better to call Trump the “Temperate Bolsonaro”, since the latter is in every way even better than the former.
