Hi everybody,
I’m going through a break up after 4 years of relationship and I feel that I can’t handle it, terrified to face it. I have had mild depression, I’m afraid it can go further, not willing to take meds.
I can’t see any way out because of our personality differences, lack of commitment, I think he’s not serious about me and so on. I had the opportunity to go on,but couldn’t face the pains I felt even that way, jealosy, feeling that he doesn’t really want to be with me or love me. I don’t know which suffering is worse by now, it feels like hell and I’m just crying and terrified.

Please help.

The situation your in right now is IMPOSSIBLE to recover from, trying by own effort to move on is IMPOSSIBLE.

The only answer i can give you is to pray to our lady for strength, don’t worry about your situation! Rather worry God with prayers!

Relax. Most everyone has been through breakups. It sucks, but you get over it in time.

Stay on your meds, pray for strength, and seek professional help if you need it.

I’ll say a prayer for you.

God Bless

Please reconsider seeing a doctor about your depression. Taking meds for depression is no different than taking medication for high blood pressure and might alleviate some of your suffering.

I pray that God will grant you relief from from this mental anguish and send you some peace.
Mary.

It’s always hard to give advice on this sort of situation without knowing the people in question personally. My suggestion is speak to any real-life friends you have first, before listening to anything little old us have to say.

I can say I went through something very similar to you when I first became Catholic. I’d met what I thought was a nice, traditional girl and I thought we were going places. I ended up being terribly wrong. It was a terrible time in my life and a horrid way to start my journey to Heaven on top of being kicked out of the family (unofficially) and being kicked out of my current Private School (officially; that actually happened).

There are lots of things people think they can say that will make you feel better, but really we all know even as we say them it doesn’t help. Realize we’ve got the idea of “dating” and “relationships” all wrong. My advice to you is to cling to the faith; fill your live with devotionals, rosary, prayer, daily mass, and anything else good and traditionally Catholic as much as possible. Commit yourself to service in the Church, and maybe if you’re into it do what I did: find some good Catholic literature, movies, or even video-games (if you’re into that) to fill up your time. Eventually, you’ll come to term with the emotions in your own way; I promise.

Just remember that Christ is more important than any person in your life and Christ will never leave you.

The purpose of dating is to see if the couple really is compatible or not for married life. If you’ve discovered this, your dating time was successful. As you make the decision to move on, you’ve opened your life to meet new people and give yourself new opportunities. Of course there is a grieving process, a time to adjust, to start again. There are many times in life where we have something important to us come to a close. Remember God is with you and will hold you as you go through this. There will be sunnier days ahead.

You should seek professional help. If you are feeling all of these emotions, you need counseling by a professional. You are among others who have had to go through break ups. I know they’re hard, but if you are afraid as far as your emotional state, please get help.

God bless,
Ed

It sounds as if you are in a very tough situation. I will keep you in my prayers.

In terms of depression, there is evidence that suggests that psychotherapy can be just as effective at treating depression as medication. There is no evidence that medication combined with therapy necessarily works “better”; it is just that the effect seems to be equivalent.

I would strongly recommend that you visit your doctor or regular care provider. If you are reluctant to consider medication, it is possible that your care provider could recommend an alternative option, such as counselling. As I am not familiar with your personal situation, I’d recommend that you see your regular care provider first because he/she knows you best and will be able to recommend something appropriate for you.

Pray really hard and find out what your true calling is! Sometimes, talking it out with someone can help. Good luck!
