How do y’all feel about breaking wishbones? My mom had boiled down some turkey bones and we found the wishbone amongst them and broke it. I asked her if that was supposed to seriously be for wishing and she said yeah, your end was longer so your wish comes true.
I thought it might be superstitious and I also don’t really believe in wishes coming true in that sense nor do I think that breaking a wishbone has any reality in it.
I told my mom that in more or less words and she didn’t really say much, so I really don’t think she believes in it either. Anyway, is it just a harmless tradition (I believe it started with the Romans and actually the Pilgrims brought it over) or is it something people should stay away from as a superstition?

Birthday wishes, wishing on a falling star, breaking a wishbone, etc…Those aren’t superstitious things. They are things people do for fun.

Your mother was just trying have some fun with her kids. That’s why she “didn’t really say much” when you burst her bubble.

Sorry. I just tend to sometimes be scrupulous about such things because I’m not sure how far some rules extend… I didn’t mean to hurt my mom.

Just a harmless superstition, if it can be called a superstition at all. I doubt anyone believes in it.

We would break the wishbone all in fun. My mom let us know that, so once, maybe twice a year it was time to break the wishbone, after breaking it, we didn’t think about it anymore…God bless

Bible quote: ‘Put away from yourselves all forms of superstition.’

Break it for fun, but forget about the superstition ☺️

They can be an alternative to Christmas Crackers?
