I always thought that methodism was flawless, but apparently not. If someone is becoming catholic what should they recognise about methodism that breaks its foundations altogether?

I was raised in the Methodist church and left at 14 to become Episcopalian. The Methodist Churches maintained some features of Anglicanism, though it is hard to see it when you visit a Methodist church now. Their service books look like the Book of Common Prayer, but they almost never use service books.
Why are you interested in breaking the foundations of Methodism? That seems to be a hard hearted desire.
Methodists are responsible for bringing the Gospel to the poor and disenfranchised of England and Wales. That is hardly something to want to destroy.

Not only that, but Methodists are really serious about doing good deeds toward others. I think us Christians need to stick together and support and learn from each other.

It turned to be Not Flawless when I saw how incomplete it was. I think that for me, on top of being a protestant religion, the fact that the reverence for Communion was incomplete, was a big issue.
But, yes, Methodism mirrors Catholicism in some of its aspects. It’s missing 5 sacraments, though. Marriage, Holy Orders, Annointing of the Sick, Confirmation, and Reconciliation. .

I think Catholic sacremental theology would grant that Methodist marriages between two baptised persons (male and female) are sacramental. Since my parents were married in a Methodist church, I do hope that Methodists actually perform marriages. I was confirmed in the Methodist church, then later re-confirmed in the Episcopal Church.
The Methodist churches retain a view of the sacraments that dates from Wesley’s time.

But Marriage isn’t considered a sacrament in Methodism. Baptism and “The Lord’s Supper” are their official sacraments.

Correct. However the Catholic Church teaches that their baptisms and their marriages are the only valid ones.

This isn’t true! Do you realise how many methodist churches there are in this world!? There are too many of them all with there own individual doctrine. So no, not always is the Lords supper an official sacrament! Some times “communion” will be treated like an earthly act…

No, my baptism in the Methodist church was accepted. And, tbh, if DH and I were married in a Methodist church, I would want my marriage blessed! I am so thankful that we had a civil ceremony…we get our Church wedding after all!!

Not to put you on the spot, but Zun, here says s/he knows the greatest flaw of Methodism, but is keeping that treasure to herself/himself! If you don’t mind my asking (and you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to) what is Methodisms biggest weakness?
