Half my family is UMC, I went there for a while, their liturgy and doctrines are pretty much just Anglican, since the Wesleys were just Anglicans, I donāt recall if the Methodists ever formally split from the Anglicans, or maybe they just sort of drifted away.
When Wesley came to Georgia it is said they accused him of being a Jesuit. John Wesley did interpret the 2 Timothy 1 passage with Onesiphorus to refer to praying for the dead. He did believe Mary to be ever virgin. I know some Wesleyians to this day have blessed or holy objects. I read one website that explained some of the early Methodists did some form of veneration of their saints.
Generally from my experience Methodists less likely to be anticatholic than other Protestants. The UMC had their communion services once every couple of months, I remember once the minister said āwe should do it more often like the Catholics doā, but they kept to it every few months using some strong grape juice and a loaf of bread. They do have female ministers, but thats the UMC, they tend to be more liberal in faith even to the point of being prochoice (they recognize abortion as murder, but seem to assert it is a civil right, right to murder? go figure)

Welcome to the club. All I can say was the UMC didnāt work for me when I went back after being saved. But for millions of others it does work for them.Kicking Methodists is kind of like kicking Bambiā¦isnāt it
On the other hand, we never get an anti-Methodist threadā¦so I am kind of honored

Have you been following the thread? But anyway, it is what my ministers taught me, and they were methodist ministers. And Iāll add (while Iām at it) that there are many denominations that teach this.

I think I figured out what the purpose of this thread is: Zundrah recognizes that no one takes the Methodists seriously. Therefore this thread is taking on a similar tone.
