The key phrase is “US-funded terrorists…” Why is the American government supporting a group of Islamic radicals with strong ties to Al-Qaeda who are persecuting Christians and trying to turn Syria into an Islamic state governed by Sharia Law? Can someone explain to me how it is in our American national interest to help people allied with the radicals who gave us 9/11 and have been killing and maiming American soldiers for 12 years? Has our government gone completely insane? After Syria, Lebanon will be next. Why has the American media practically ignored what is happening there? Had His Holiness, Pope Francis, not publicly called for prayers for them, who in America would know about the nuns kidnapped from the ancient St. Thekla’s Monasery? Ya Raburham. Lord, have mercy.

Father Morris, I just read that the U.S. and the U.K stopped sending some sort of aid to the rebels (non lethal aid). I found some articles:

bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-25331241

cbsnews.com/news/us-cuts-aid-to-syria-rebels-as-islamists-advance/

Better late than never, I suppose. 😦

Father, as a history person I recommend the book Ghost Wars by Steve Coll. If nothing I think you should at least read the first chapter and skim the rest. It’s about the US funding of mujahideen related to political agenda in Afghanistan and how they were painted to be “freedom fighters” until their cause of “freedom” contradicted our interests. It’s very much applicable in this case as well [it’s not a polemical book, it’s a history book].
