if you break 1 of the 3 requirements of the brown scapular can you go to confession and confess get obsolved and start fresh again or are you out for good? i have already asked this question and got the reply saying you can stop the devotion and start fresh again some time later. but i never got a clear answer can i go to confession if i break 1 of the 3 requirements of the brown scapular and start fresh again on the day of my confession thank you.

The Brown Scapular is a private devotion which you are free to follow or not. So, if you don’t do part of the devotion there is no sin involved. You don’t have to go to confession for that. If you have been generally slothful in your spiritual life, that you should confess that, but following or not following a private devotions isn’t a sin. So, just do what the priest said and start again, if you wish. Private devotions are meant to be aids to our faith, not burdens to be borne. If a devotion helps you keep your baptismal vows, fine, do it. If it doesn’t help you, you don’t have to do that devotion.

The best way to help your spiritual life is to at least pray part of the Liturgy of the Hours (besides the Mass, its the official daily prayer of the Church). Morning and Evening Prayer is usually best for lay people to do: divineoffice.org/ (scroll down past their pitch for donatons). Also, reading the daily Mass readings is a good way to feed your soul and keep up with the Church’s seasons, solemnities, feasts, etc. Just a suggestion for you to consider. 🙂

I will keep on posting this link to the valuable Catechesis on the Brown Scapular by the Carmelite orders so that we can get a clear picture of what the Scapular is really about.

There is no sin in breaking any “requirements” of the Scapular. Therefore there is no need to confess anything. If you stopped for a while, you can always restart it without any issues.

But read this Catechesis. You will find that the gist is to practice Carmelite spirituality and put yourself under your Mother’s care as the Carmelites do.

This.

In the Carmelite Annals, there are numerous stories of individuals abandoning their Scapular and then taking it up later on, sometimes miraculously.

Yes. 🙂 At one time the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary was part of Carmelite practice, but now the Order recommends the LOTH. The rosary may be prayed, but it’s not actually Carmelite, although it’s certainly fine. The rosary is more a Dominican practice.

I didn’t want to overwhelm the OP with too much info since he is struggling with the devotion, as it is. 😉 Hopefully our replies will be helpful to him.
