i feel that breast augmentation surgery can benefit the emotional recovery of those who have undergone mastectomies, or been involved in accidents etc. even some women who are suffering serious psychological setbacks might be able to benefit from this sort of surgery, but are our societies not becoming addicted to the use of breast implants, as a means to enlarge breasts, to boost sex appeal,? and in so doing, are we not forgetting that there might be men out there, who like us the way we are, viz with small breasts? it seems to me like we are creating a society of men fixated on large breasts? its no wonder some women opt for breast reductions. i remember a young lady on the TV saying that she decided to get a breast reduction, because she got tired of men always speaking to her breasts. is that really where we want to be? a society of women with large breasts?

are our societies loosing touch with reality, and becoming obsessed with youthful cosmetic appearances? i am opposed to most forms of invasive beauty enhancing, cosmetic surgery, purely from an aesthetic viewpoint. in my view, it looks unnatural, but what is the Curches view on this subject. is it a sin for women to undergo, or want to undergo, cosmetic breast augmentation/enlargement surgery (breast implants)? am interested to hear others viewpoint on this?
When your Church ever takes a stand on this issue you are personally opposed to, please send me a PM or notify us that subscribe on this thread that there is some update we must adhere to.

i personally prefer women with natural breasts. size is not important, as long as they are natural, either small, or large, doesnt make any difference, in fact i think women with wider hips, look better with smaller breasts. that is my own personal opinion. i cannot speak for others on this.

When we need to consult you for preferences about breast size, be sure that we will come pounding down your door seeking your personal preference. We might even come to prefer your objection to agmentation surgery due to your views. We may even decide to picket boycott and protest any such activity because you don’t prefer it.
Consulting the Catholic Church on this will only be our very last recourse after our whipped up frenzy to please you and satisfy your personal needs in life.

I am nearly out of breath thinking about how I can spend hours at a time trying to make women do what I want them to do. As if I owned them or something.

many women believe that if they enlarge their breasts, they will have more men showing interest in them. i disagree with this, in fact, i feel that some women unknowingly cause men who like women with small breasts, to loose interest in them, when they have their breasts enlarged. but it seems like we are living in a society of men fixated on large artificial synthetic silicone breasts. am not sure that this is altogether a good thing, and not sure that we will ever be able to reverse this trend, as long as there are women willing to fight for their breast implants

Many people in general believe a lot of things that may be a load of junk.
We are living in a society that values that type of thinking.
You know what I mean don’t you?
For instance, where do we in the US rank globally in science? Who cares you may say.It is a society bent on us being ignorant I say. You rightfully object due to the horror of breast augmentation.
No more discussion is needed.

i feel that in a lot of instances, the fashion industry is to blame, for promoting the quasi android anorexic fashion model, body frame, as being something desirable. young girls are encouraged to starve themselves in order to attain a sub BMI weight, then we are encoraging our men to fixate on large breasts, as a result these models are getting oversized breast implants, resulting in large bulges of silicone, with prominant seams, because there isnt sufficient skin on these poor young ladies bodies, to contain their new breasts. am not sure that this is really where we ought to be heading in the fashion and movie industries. it all seems far too unnatural.

Can we blame society for the reason so many priests had problems restraining themselves from raping little children?

I believe that on issue that the Church doesn’t address one really needs to see their priest re: the potential sinfulness of an action.

Just off the top of my head, as one fairly ignorant of moral theology, I tend to think of cosmetic surgery as similar to the issue of tattoos. These are morally neutral and the sinfulness, when there is, usually comes from using money or resources in an irresponsible manner. Folks shouldn’t be going into debt or sacrificing their obligations because of the cost of a superfluous action. I suppose vanity could come into it but that is even harder to qualify than the question of prudent use of resources.

I didn’t really say anything there really besides that people concerned about this should speak to their priest and/or pray about it.

Maybe it’s the case that not every action is a sin, even if it follows from personal insecurities or weaknesses. Everyone on here wants to isolate and break down everyones actions and point out where they sinned. They want to treat all of behavior in a vacuum. They say love the sinner, hate the sin; but they leave no room for the person. They assume that everyone should just act perfect, and if they don’t then they are going to hell.

These judgemental people don’t know anything about human behavior and why they do what they do. Yet they are absolutely certain that what everyone else does is a sin. They assume that everyone can up and feel, think and act just like themselves.

We could call everything a sin. Since it has been questioned whether it is a sin to have some cosmetic surgery, what about other areas of life? Is it a sin to own a mercedes benz, bmw, a sports car, etc? The truth is, you don’t need it. It is simply vanity that makes people buy these cars. No one buys a Dodge Charger because they need one; they buy it because they like the way it looks and moves. Is it a sin to go to Mcdonalds? Is it a sin to go to disneyland? Is it a sin to go skiing? Is it a sin to play sports? Frankly, these are all vanity. Is it a sin to watch tv, play video games, and post on these forums? Everything we do could be broken down and isolated and declared to be sin.

Mostolto,

Allow me to bring some reason and understanding here.

Breast Reduction Surgery is done for women that have large breasts that cause neck pain, back pain and shoulder grooving from the bra straps. These are some of the happiest patients in the world. Many have been made fun of for their large breasts. Many cannot perform athletics because of the large breasts. Brazil is a place where breast reduction is performed for aesthetics. Small breasts are aesthetically pleasing in this country.

Breast augmentations for no reason other than to enlarge the breasts is a cosmetic procedure. The happiest breast augmentation patients are the women that have been pregnant and then after nursing their breasts deflate. This is called post partum involution of the breasts. These women just want to get back to where they were when lactating.

Mastopexy is a face lift of the breast. With age the breasts droop and it is basically the same procedure technically as a breast reduction without removal of any breast tissue. This is purely a cosmetic procedure.

Breast augmentation for young girls that have asymmetry for reasons related to congenital problems is not considered cosmetic. Poland’s Syndrome is a congenital problem that may require breast augmentation.

You might want to read up on liposuction and health. The procedure is cosmetic. Liposuction simply removes fat from a particular area, and does nothing to remove fat deposits from vital organs, and thus won’t reduce your health risks.

Diet and exercise is the way to go.
If you had perhaps read my post a bit more closely you would know that I already diet very strictly. No deserts, nothing fried, and no fatty meats. I am very close to being vegan in my one small meal.

I did neglect to mention that besides CHF I have also had a stroke. That makes aerobic exercise impossible for me. I just move slowly pushing a walker.

I do take fish oil caps, the only oil I eat is extra virgin olive oil, and I am at wits end. My annual blood work showing cholesterol levels both good and bad , and triglycerides always comes out well. But I am always sluggish, tire easily and am always sleepy. I sleep 10 hours almost every night.

I know the recomendation is diet and exercise. I diet stictlly but being unable to do any meaningfull excercise makes wieght loss nigh impossible.

I am 57 years old, and balding, looks and vanity are my last consideration when it comes to liposuction.

I am male, and I would like to be able to afford liposuction, not for apperences but for the sake of my health. I fast at times, usually only eat one small meal a day. But try as I may I can’t get under 220lbs.

Health because carrying so much fat strains the heart, and I already have CHF (heart failure).

I know this is not about breast augmentation but it still fits in under “cosmetic” surgery that in my case is not cosmetic at all.
Andrew,

Liposuction is not done without consequences. I read in another post that you have issues with your heart and a history of stroke. Here is what you should know. Liposuction requires anesthesia. Anesthesiologists will grade your risk based on your health. They use what is called an ASA scale. I is healthy and IV is moribund almost dead. You most certainly would qualify as an ASA III based on what you say and that means you are a risk for anesthesia.

Next, Liposuction for weight loss is not recommended. I realize that you have difficulty however you do burn calories just by being alive, breathing and moving. The best hope you have is doing whatever exercise you can within the limits of your health and then finding a way to eat regularly the amount you need to safely shed weight.

Vegan is one of the best ways to go. Eliminating fat from your diet entirely would help. You will find that it is impossible to eliminate fat even if you try so basically you will only take in the fat you need.

Good luck…

I’ve also seen women go for breast reduction so that they can look like some slender runway model.

Crescentinus,

I have to tell you that in all my years of practice, no one came for Breast Reduction to look like a model. The truth of the matter is that while large breasts are promoted through magazines and the media, large breasts usually come with a large habitus. It was the exception to see a thin woman with large breasts. Your experience does not translate to my surgical experience and the experience of attending too many meetings to count and discussions on breast reduction. This observation does not equate to my experience and observation.

To be fair, I did see more women go for breast reduction in order to attract some dude if not dudes. The way some have almost fetishized breast reduction is creepy.

Probably. Since the Church hates anything sexy or sexual (with the exception of monogamous unprotected pro-creating missionary-position sex between married couples, of course ) then it’s probably a mortal sin.

The rule of thumb is that if something makes you happy you’re not allowed to do it.😦
What a sad perception of the Bride of Christ. Personally, I have come to recognize that where I struggle with what the Church teaches and I want, my want is generally born of desire for gratification, not happiness. I’ve never found a Church teaching that genuinely prevented me from achieving happiness. Just from hurting myself somehow. (And I assume you intended the distortion and caricature in your post above…)

Cresecent,

How many women did you evaluate for Breast Reduction and how many Breast Reduction Surgeries did you do in a year?

That, I did not do.
In my defense, I have heard of women doing this either on FaceBook or on some other social website.
