What do you think when the state removes children from the home for disagreeing with doctors? In this case, CPS intervened after a mother had a healthy homebirth of full term twins. Read the article and please give your feedback.

All three of their babies have been taken away from them and placed in the care of strangers. Levi was 10 months old when his mother, local singer and songwriter Erica May Rengo, gave birth to his twin brother and sister, at their home in Bellingham, Washington.
“Our birth was glorious,” she said, and the twins were reportedly healthy, full-term babies, who had no problem quickly figuring out how to breastfeed. The little family was overjoyed until CPS stepped in to “help.”
It is another medical kidnapping according to the parents. The Rengos have chosen a wholesome, holistic lifestyle, based in their Christian faith. But CPS has stepped in to override the parents’ decisions. Now Erica and Cleave are living what they call a nightmare, separated from their children for reasons that don’t make any sense at all to them.

I think the State has very, very, very, very, very few legitimate reasons to ever take a child out of anyone’s home. Very few. Being ripped out of their parents home is almost always (almost always) worse than whatever the State thinks its saving the kids from. Maybe its the ex-Libertarian in me, but I never feel comfortable enough with the government to be this intrusive in the lives of her citizens. The State is neither omnipotent, omnibenevolent, nor omniscient (despite what it believes of itself). This should have all parents up in arms.

Children aren’t removed for home births or breastfeeding. That’s non sense. Shoot, kids are hardly removed when they should be for legitimate abuse!

This is propaganda not news.

Hmm I call fake something other than home birth and eczema was going on maybe they used marijuana? I know cps in Florida took my moms friends son because she got called for a welfare visit due to her home being dirty they cleaned up but still failed a drug test its hard for cps to take kids unless visible signs of abuse or neglect are present or drug use is going on these people had to have had a dirty test

To me, this does not seem like an unbiased article. They mentioned that there were other abuse allegations that the parents just waved aside. I think there’s more going on than the article suggests.

Here are some other viewpoints:

latest.com/2014/11/child-protective-services-take-away-familys-kids-chose-home-birth/

snopes.com/politics/medical/cpshomebirth.asp

I think the original article was written for maximum outrage, not to give unbiased information.
I read both articles. Not much new info there other than opinion. The authors seem of the view that CPS would never abuse their power, end of story.

The woman is a devout Christian whose own mother was a la leche leader and homebirth educator.

IF it is true, then I think it is awful. I do think that some parents actually take the “crunchy” lifestyle too seriously and this may have been the case, but I don’t beleive that is justification for taking away someone’s children. However, I think the story seemed very one sided and I wouldn’t doubt there is more to it than is being shared in this piece. The whole, “she was softly playing guitar,” line seems a little hokey to me.

Unfortunately, the state police have the machine guns, the tasers, the automatic weapons, the tear gas and the handcuffs to force their ignorant will on peace loving, decent Christian people who are trying to bring up their children in a healthy, drug free, natural breast fed environment. As long as Americans continue to vote for Republican or Democrat, this is what they will get.

Agree with you there.

The state has been known to abuse their power in these CPS cases before because workers disapproved of unconventional parenting.

Does someone have an interest in taking three very young, healthy babies away from their parents?
Could someone be waiting for those children?

There was a scandal recently in my country, it was suspected that some children were taken away from their parents in order to be adopted by another family.
Certainly in some cases it was justified, but there were situations where children were adopted before the time given to parents to make some changes even expired.

I agree.

The older child is 10 months old. Meaning he was only about 1 month old when the twins were conceived. Yet he was supposedly breastfed. I understand that the first few weeks after birth a baby needs to build up his mother’s milk supply by nursing very frequently. I wonder if she was able to build up a good milk supply and maintain it while tandem nurse while pregnant with twins. I’ve heard of tandem nursing, but not with a child so young.

Maybe there is more to the story. If the story is real…( the strumming the guitar and baby on her back seem a little fake…to me at least)

I think there is probably a lot more infomration that has not been made public, and the family is using breastfeeding and home birthing as a way to deflect from other issues.

I’m not entirely sure how real this story is either. But, I will say this. When I gave birth to my second child she was exclusively breastfed and I easily produced milk and produced it quickly.
I still became completely fertile within five weeks of giving birth and if my husband and weren’t abstaining I would have easily became pregnant a month after I had given birth.

I don’t doubt fertility returning very quickly. It’s happened to me in the past.

I do doubt the ability of a mom to get a good milk supply in a month, conceive twins and able to nurse while pregnant without it effecting her milk supply for the older child. I know it’s possible after a milk supply is established when the first baby is older.

This little guy seems awfully young.

Conveniently, this story is not being “reported” anywhere except agenda-driven web sites and on Facebook. It’s also the same story over and over. No original reporting.

I call hoax.

A simple google search of the mother’s name reveals nothing except these garbage stories.

So much for the “singer/songwriter”

Indeed. I recommend keeping the daggers in their sheathes until more substantiation is available.

Of course we should still stay vigilant. I remember in 2011 a Mississippi judge issuing a court order demanding the names and addresses of all homeschoolers in his district for purposes that were largely unclear and not part of any specific case. Thankfully, people agitated and got the MS supreme court to vacate the order.

I just checked the Washington State Court Case site. It lists any interaction a person has had with the court system, from fighting a traffic citation to being tried for murder. No record of this gal there.
