Breathing

my question to those that aspire to true holiness is;

Do you practice the restriction of sensual enough;

I mean if we could choose to breath in a flavoured type of air how often would we do so; do we subject ourselves to the real basics of comfort to feel satisfied in our quest to please our lord on the pilgrimage we have so set our hearts so on.

Such human artifices as t.v ,films, food, drink, humour, holidays, sex, and the such of wanting of other desires.

For surly to be rich you are just so for others,to have power you are just so for others,and to have the holy spirit is it not also just so for others,meaning the more restraint you have, the more thought or awareness has our neighbour ,(who without so much spirit,maybe from the unavailable opportunity of baptism,or just outright cruelty)has to recover lost time or ways or from inflicted injury or illness they have received ect.

Off course we can palm it all off and say the lords grace is sufficient for those in such peril,but then where is the giving in that; you could also argue there is no reward in works alone whether active or inactive,the latter just as hard.

Catholic evangelism is i could suggest is much about they above latter than reaching out verbally,to lead the way by example,outside or behind closed doors,and stoic in the face of selflessness,is our present from our elders,tried and tested,lets not let them down.

Muhammad Ali summed it up pretty well. He said “We have one life, it soon will be past, what we do for God is all that will last”
I love this quote so much. It’s what we do for others that counts and that can make a difference in this world.

I agree that often there might be no reward in works alone, as the reward is to see others happy. Sometimes works alone can also mean though to just let someone know that you’re always there for them in case they need you (inactive) which might already make them a little more happy. I love to see others happy. Actually I always want to make everyone happy, and have been told many times that this is not possible.

What I do is I pray to the Lord that He hels me see, helps me hear, and helps me walk.

It was quite simple( are we indulging ourselves to much ) the moral was little is more,especially when a brother of ours can have what we may have declined to use or what we did not take part in.

Thanks for the reply anyway,and the posts above,i wasnt really expecting any replies anyway but theres always a way for those who have a will.

I`m a fan of thomas hearns when given the choice,and i think the only message he taught us was stay out the ring.

I just skimmed through this, but I’m sorry: what exactly is it that you want to discuss? :confused:

You title this thread “Breathing”…in the Moral Theology section, so I was thinking you wanted to discuss the morality of breathing? :confused

This thread makes not a shred of sense.

oh yeah, I could, even after my coffee, I still am not grasping the meaning of OP.
I think it means we would do well to place less importance on created things, but I still don’t see the moral prescription you seem to feel should be evident.

It was more of a personal question to the individual of whether they abstain enough from the pleasures of the flesh,for the sake of their brothers.

The title i suppose was to draw you in,plus they obviousness that you cannot choose such an impulse reaction.

SO you and the others bar 1 have given yourselves over to a different kind of human greed,which is to react where there was a choice!

Not really a test was it meant to be,but the proud have shown there true colours…

Sorry about the semantic juxtaposition,but you had a choice…

This is not a hookah problem. This is a DSM-IV problem. But I am sure you guys already have figured that out by now…

So you accuse us of pride AND greed? 🤷 I leave that to God to judge between the two of us at the close of the age----I normally don’t say this, but since you accuse us of pride, I think it is fair to request God’s judgment in this matter. How can you know the state of our souls?

Normally one titles the thread the topic which is to be discussed so as to make sense, just like St. Paul says that those who speak in tongues should have an interpreter or be silent. You could have said that this is about “Human Comforts” or “Riches” or something of the sort. Never mind.

I don’t think that’s fair. Not all of us are equally gifted with our writing. I know Mark. He’s a fine dude. Except he’s a pom!

My reading of what he wrote is that we overindulge in the trappings of our western civilization. Things like t.v ,films, food, drink, humour, holidays, sex, mark desribed as “artifices”. Considering the dictionary definition of ‘artifice’, I think he’s on the right track. I might take out ‘humour’, but then again that depends on what people do to amuse themselves. Basically, we of the affluent west can sometimes lose sight of what should be the real priorities in life and we succumb to the wanting more of the trappings of civilisation at, perhaps, the expense of spiritual things. Not too many Catholics would disagree with that observation, methinks!

I’m not a fan of boxing either. My mom used to LOVE him and as I grew older I understood why. He didn’t care about his medal but threw it into the water. Further he refused to go to war and decided to accept some time in prison. Islam is not our religion but I’ve just looked up to him for always having lived his religion, and even though he was a star he lived his life as a religious man and often dismissed secular influences 🙂
 
I am completely bemused by this thread. Can anyone explain what on earth this is all about?
