Whaoh, what a journey! How blessed you are to have found your way. Congratulations!
Thanks. i am truly blessed in many ways. Thank God for that. šŸ™‚
I understand. I never left the Church but, in my teenage years I started seeking truth. I wanted to intellectually find the truth. Not just believe because I was born and raised a Catholic. I considered how the Greeks and the Egyptians really believed in their Gods and now they are all gone from the actively thoughts of people. I did not want to be a Christian or have the Catholic faith and have it turn out to be the same in 500 years. I figured I only have one life to live and I wanted to live it in truth. I explored and learned about many different religions and they only confirmed my Catholic faith. šŸ™‚

I think those thoughts and beliefs are still there because you need to come to understand and recognize that they are erroneous. It’s part of the journey for moving forward.

I think there are steps that cannot be forced and time plays a role. Time and actively seeking understanding and prayers. I went through this step as I mentioned. I came to the understand that you are seeking now and I can tell you that it is worth seeking. You will get rid off a luggage and will be freer to move forward with your spirituality growth. And in doing so, you come closer to God and come to know Him more.

What I can suggest to you is to take a comprehensive approach - that is, seek a coherent understanding. Consider the whole theory of reincarnation - do all the pieces fall together to make a coherent whole? On the other hand, seek a coherent understanding of the Catholic faith and note how the piece of ā€˜reincarnation’ does not fit in a coherent whole and is not in harmony with truth.

Peace
Thank you. I will certainly do that. Please keep me in your prayers.

I will keep you and your cousin in my humble prayers. I will pray to the Holy Spirit that He illuminates your understanding. People say that the Holy Spirit is a gentleman as He only goes where He is invited. šŸ™‚ It’s good to call Him…Come Holy Spirit…

I like this prayer to the Holy Spirit. It’s a hymn but people pray it too and it’s a nice prayer.

COME, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid
to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

O comforter, to Thee we cry,
O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above.

Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;
Thou, finger of God’s hand we own;
Thou, promise of the Father, Thou
Who dost the tongue with power imbue.

Kindle our sense from above,
and make our hearts o’erflow with love;
with patience firm and virtue high
the weakness of our flesh supply.

Far from us drive the foe we dread,
and grant us Thy peace instead;
so shall we not, with Thee for guide,
turn from the path of life aside.

Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow
the Father and the Son to know;
and Thee, through endless times confessed,
of both the eternal Spirit blest.

Now to the Father and the Son,
Who rose from death, be glory given,
with Thou, O Holy Comforter,
henceforth by all in earth and heaven.
Amen.

One thing that just plain clashes with my Catholic understanding and the theory of reincarnation is exactly the knowledge that God respect us very much. He respect human dignity and the person. Contemplation and prayer will help.

Please pray for me.

May God continue to bless you.

Peace.

Hebrews 9:27 Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after this the judgment,
Christ raised people from the regular death who went on to die again. I figure raising people from the dead gives them another chance to ā€˜get it right’. People die and are brought back on a pretty regular basis today just through medicine. There’s a different understanding for that verse you gave that may be seen by the following:

(This speaks of Christ rising from the dead - within each of us. When the ā€˜temple has been cleared’, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell. And then we know that marvelous experience of being ā€˜led by the nose’ … Job 41:18 - ā€œBy his neesings a Light doth shineā€¦ā€)

1 Cor 15:

13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then [is] our preaching vain, and your faith [is] also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith [is] vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

Gospel of Thomas:
  1. Jesus said, ā€œTake heed of the Living One while you are
    alive, lest you die and seek to see Him and be unable to do so.ā€
ā€œHe that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.ā€ Rev.2:11 ((He in whom Chirst is Resurrected before he dies."))

ā€œBlessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power.ā€ Rev. 20:6

Resurrection is not reincarnation!

I absolutely do not believe in reincarnation even as a possibility.

I tried to for a long time, though, when I was involved in Eastern mysticism. Psychology explains most ā€œexperiencesā€. The most common means is through hypnotic suggestion, as noted, but it’s not limited there. For example, when we are small children, we typically can’t distinguish very well between our memories from waking life and those from our nighttime dreams. You probably have many ā€œmemoriesā€ of events that never actually took place outside of your head, but your mind at the time processed them as real, so you believe they are.

Another thing is that, again as children, when we remember something and can’t remember why we remember it, we often actually make up a memory in order to make our earlier memory rational and to fill in gaps in our experience. In fact memory is so fluid in childhood that many of our memories are likely to be entirely false! There’s an article I’ll have to look up online to link to here.

What would you say about those cases where children remembered very specific details, which were later confirmed to be historical fact? This is something that I’ve wondered about. What would you think?

I don’t doubt it is false, I’m just wondering how this would happen. Perhaps it is demonic?

Your last sentence is the answer.

Satan and his demons have been around since the beginning of time, and their intellects know a lot about people who have lived. Satan is the father of lies and can deceive those who do not hold fast to their faith.

I’ve read extensively on the subject of reincarnation and I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes people have a piece of information and can’t explain how they got it, perhaps a piece of information on a person who lived before or a place and period of time. For the most part, the reincarnation is an interpretation that they place on it to explain how the information was received. Tapping into a collective conscious would also explain it, but it wouldn’t sell as many books. šŸ™‚

I would say that they probably got a snippet of that historical fact from television, overhearing others talk about it, etc., and then reinvented it as a memory.

Do you know how schizophrenia works? A schizophrenic person’s brain has, in effect, a too-powerful memory with a too-disorganized way of keeping those memories. So there is a large, perhaps even larger than usual, amount of stored information in the schizophrenic brain, but it has no cohesive system of keeping memories from tangling up in each other. That’s why schizophrenics often claim to be people they’re not, or to have witnessed or committed acts that never took place. As an example, I might see a shooting on television, which I remember, and have it combine with the memory of a person I know, and conclude that that person perpetrated the shooting.

I think that perhaps as small children, especially considering that our minds are going into overdrive trying to remember everything since it’s all new and we’re trying to take in as much information as possible to adapt successfully to the world, that our mind may work in a somewhat schizophrenic way as described above.
