My dress was white and blue, blue tule mixed in with the white, and blue bits of lace overlay lace and a blue sash.

If I were to marry again I’d probably do a purple dress.

Does anyone watch Say yes to the Dress? it’s unreal to me the number of women who choose those hideous lingerie dresses, with see through corsets for the bodice etc. Tacky tacky.
I love, love, love that show though. Working at Kleinfeld’s would probably be my dream job.

I think I finally got this to work.
Ooooooooooooo!!! Pretty!!! And what a lovely family!

I love gold for a wedding, it is so elegant. When my cousin was married he was in the Army. He was in his full dress uniform, as were every one of his groomsmen and his best man. The bride wore ivory, but the bridesmaids wore gold - and next to those dress uniforms it was AMAZING!!! The wedding was at a chapel at Arlington (my cousin was on the Honor Guard), and they left the chapel under crossed swords and got into a horse drawn carriage. The most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to.

And they are still happily married with kids too. 😉

I love that show as well…but I’m not sure I’d have the patience to deal with brides who are too dramatic, “Just pick a dress…pick one!”

My wedding dress was called diamond white. Meaning that it looked white, but if you compared it with snow, it looked creamy. It was a traditional full gown.

I had been drawing wedding gowns since I was little, and for a while in the late seventies, early eighties the trend was for not very full skirts. When i was married, the full skirts were popular again.

I always wanted a princess gown…so even if I only had 4 people at the wedding, I would have still liked to have a princess gown. 😃

I remember taking a trip to Las Vegas, and there was a place to rent wedding gowns. I wanted to and I wanted to get some pictures on the stair case in the Bellagio, but my DH wasn’t into it…“honey we’ve been married 2 years already.”

Oh, and for the record she is my stepdaughter I can’t take any credit for the genetics of that lovely girl but thank you.

It’s hard to see in the pic but the bridesmaids had a golden ribbon around the lower ribcage. The groomsmen all had forest green vests -it was an early December wedding - yes, Christmas themed. My stepdaughter alter served so she had her own bouquet and dress for he reception.

Many years ago, a bride got married around Halloween and had her bridesmaids in that color orange and black. Not good.

One of prettiest I saw was a bride in egg shell pink (that’s really soft) with an encrusted bodice and the bridesmaids in white with pink sashes.

Equally attractive was a black, white and red Christmas wedding. Both Moms had to wear red, bridesmaids in black velvet, and bride in white.

Sarah Jessica Parker wore a black wedding gown and later said she regretted it.

I think the name of the game is MODEST. Lately all you see is strapless wedding gowns.
  1. not everyone looks nice in a strapless gown
  2. NOT for Mass or any church for that matter.
My humble opinion.

I agree, CradleCatholic. The primary concern should be to dress to please God. It seems to me there are more options for modest wedding dresses (and bridesmaid dresses) now. Some of them are truly breath-taking.

I got married in a long white dress, as I had always wanted, but I absolutely refused to wear a dress with a train… I could not stand the thought of having to drag yards and yards of useless cloth behind me all day long and wrestle with it at the reception. It took some doing but I did finally find the dress I wanted, it was floor length but it had no train.

If I ever got married again or could do my wedding over again I think I would look for an ice blue or sky blue dress.

In case anyone out there is looking for modest wedding dresses, consider shopping for Quinceanera dresses (worn by Hispanic teens for their 15th birthday celebrations). Although designed for teenage girls, you can get them in all colors, sizes and shapes (one site offers them up to size 28!) and the strapless or spaghetti-strap styles all come with a matching jacket, shawl or bolero, which solves the modesty-in-church problem. They are also more affordable, usually under $500.

As long as the dress is suitably modest for church, the color is a matter of personal choice. Just because I do or do not like a certain look doesn’t make it “wrong” for someone else to wear it. I’m not paying the bill, so I don’t get a vote! 😉

I wore an ivory tea-length dress and a wide-brimmed hat for my own wedding. My mother was a bit disappointed that I didn’t wear her gown, which she had saved “just for me” before I was even conceived. But I grew too tall (and wide), so it would have required extensive alterations…giving me a good excuse to avoid wearing a dress that was so NOT my own style. A friend of mine who was a bit of a rebel (this was in the early 1980’s) wore a hoop-skirted dress of red “dotted Swiss” fabric (white dots), which looked wonderful with her coloring and long black hair. Another friend wore a beautiful off-white lace dress with a wide sash in periwinkle blue that hung down her backside (she was thin enough to look good in such a dress!), with her b’maids wearing dresses in the same shade of blue. Of course, if the groom has his heart set on seeing his bride in traditional white, his feelings do deserve some consideration.
