“O nymphios”.

This devotion to Christ - the suffering servant and Saviour of the World - is very beautiful.

Some information: orthodoxwiki.org/Christ_the_Bridegroom

There are many stunning hymns in these services used by the Orthodox. I’m wondering how many Catholic Churches have retained bridegroom matins. Is it something unique to the Greek/Byzantine tradition, or does it have parallels among the Thomas Christians, Assyrians, and Copts?

*I see Thy Bridal Chamber adorned, O my Savior, but have no wedding garment that I may enter. O Giver of Light, enlighten the vesture of my soul, and save me. *

Basilian, I see it’s been a couple days and no one has answered - but the answer is really that it depends on the parish. My Russian Catholic parish does serve the Bridegroom Matins on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights of Great and Holy week, and it is indeed stunning. So it does exist among the Slavs, not just the Greeks. However some other parishes may do the Presanctified Liturgy instead on Mon - Wednesday.

As far as I’m aware, this isn’t a common Liturgy among the Oriental/Assyrian Churches. The Syriac Tradition did at one time have a pre-Sanctified Liturgy, but it is now only common among some Syriac/Indian Orthodox in India; the Syriac Orthodox in the Middle East, the Syriac Catholics, and the Syro-Malankara Catholics tend to offer the Holy Qurbono daily during Lent, and Copts can correct me if I’m wrong - the Coptic Orthodox do the same. As far as I’m aware, the Church of the East does not have a pre-Sanctified Liturgy.

Thank you both for replying. 🙂

I asked primarily because of the Hymn of Kassiani, which is so beautiful and should be heard by more of the brethren, both East and West.

May the glory of the Lord shine upon you in Pascha…
