Ok, we know some people on here would like to see the gaps bridged between religions, how would you go about doing this?
Make people submit to your beliefs? Accept people for what they believe?
How would you go about it?

I would love for people to discuss what they believe without the insults. I would love for people to allow others to worship as they choose without penalty of death. I do think that the state should insure religion does not harm people.

Most important, I would want everyone to learn EXACTLY what their faith teaches. IF they cannot comply, I want them to get out of that religion and find a new one. If there is no religion that condones what you do, you must change what you do.

I disagree, but not entirely. 🙂

Don’t you think that people should find a religion that they think is right, and then change any behaviors that aren’t right?

I don’t think dropping a religion because you’re not following it 100% at the moment is the answer. If someone believes that the teachings are correct, even if he isn’t perfect in practice, shouldn’t he stick with that religion?

Searching for a religion that condones your behavior seems odd to me. Shouldn’t someone strive to reach some ideal?

God, I’d hate to settle for a religion that condones all of my weaknesses. 🙂

I am not so much concerned about what people “believe” but I am more concerned how they live. What good does it do to believe that the eucharist is the “real presence”, when we cannot speak peace and show kindness to our neighbor. What good does it do to “belong to the fullness of faith”, yet turn a blind eye to the child who lives on our block who is hungry…or the single mother in our apartment complex who struggles to feed and clothe her children.

What good does it do to ‘pray’ and offer prayer for others when they are in pain if prayer is all we offer to give them?

Showing kindness to our neighbor…allowing them to follow the Light Within according to their conscience…being a Light…being the Body of Christ we claim to “recieve” in the eucharist…living an “incarnational” life in our world. If God truly seeks to save those who are lost…then we must trust Him to draw them to Himself…what we need to concern ourselves with is that WE be honest…WE be faithful…WE show kindness…WE show mercy…WE show love…if WE would only truly follow Him…many would follow…WE claim to have the answer among ourselves…but WE live like we want to keep it a secret.

Trust the Lord to come to the lost through us…but we must be a mirror of grace and live a life of truth…but for some reason we want to convince the world we’re “right” instead of show them by our lives the Truth we live in…“If I be lifed up, I will draw all men to myself.”…we forgot to “lift Him up” in our lives.,and allow Him to do the rest.

The problem that there are major contradictions between the religions, thereby I don’t think the gap will ever be bridged.

You are right but too many people want it both ways. They want their issues ignored and everyone elses fixed.

Let us consider an easy one. Let us say someone thinks beastiality is acceptable. They must leave the Catholic Church. Bye. Then, they will learn that no other Christian Church allows it either. So Sorry. Sooner or later, they will see that NOONE condones it. They will either start a Church that will or deal with it another way.

I am just sick of people saying that the Church has no right to teach something but remain Catholic. If you feel that you can choose what the Church can tell you, you should get your stuff and leave. I would rather have a smaller holier church than a larger less devout one. Someone said that.

Hi ralphinal!

I like your approach.

Thanks and regards

Hi

I am with you that one should not change one’s religion just for expediency. It should be done being satisfied heart and soul with reasonable and rational arguments irrespective of the fact if one is a sinner or not; that is a separate issue altogether, I think.

Thanks

Hi

That doesn’t mean one should not try.We should do it for the sake of humanity and for world peace. It is very much possible.

Thanks

I think it is helpful to know our own religion first. Not only knowledge of doctrine, but the experience of prayer and obedience to God. Our hearts are made to love God, and we find our path in his will for us. Then, when our hearts are correctly focused like that, then are we of use to our neighbor. Then I think we can better engage in difficult dialogue between faiths. Well, I find it difficult, anyway.

What should we say to people who claim that Allah allowed the corruption of his words when God says a zillion time He is faithful to his words and promises and that His word will stand forever? in other words, what do we respond to the blasphemous who say God was not truthful?

my few cents worth… i guess to bridge the gap every one would have to look at parts of individual religions that teach the same thing like… peace… love thy neighbour… honour thy parents… that sort of stuff… promoting family life, anti-abortion… stuff like that…

other finer points that contradict each other, there’s really no way to ‘bridge’ cos it’s not a gap but direct opposition and every one should just be mature enough about it to tolerate so that we can all live in harmony!

although i feel conflicted with what happens to good people who have no religion or believe and practice fully another religion (ie non-Catholic)… 🤷
