You guys are absolutely incredible never have I found a group like this that is so welcoming and helpful! I feel like I’ve burned the candle at both ends so to speak and exhausted the intellectual side of finding God. As many of you have mentioned the way to find God is to be and live. I’ll be trying to not frantically determine his existence through studying and will be taking time to try to pray and have faith. I’ll be here for pms and the like but won’t be posting dumb questions for a bit. You guys have all been amazing and I appreciate all the guidance and assistance you have provided!

Thank you all for treating me with dignity you have no idea how amazing it feels to not be ridiculed or feel ostracized especially in what I perceive to be a difficult time.

Intelectual proof of God’s existence have helped me on moments of doubt, but that was not what brought me to Faith.
It would be good to you to spend less time trying to rationalize these hard questions and more time praying.
I will be praying the rosary for your intetions.
God bless you, dear brother
In Corde Jesu et Mariae.

There was a conversation about Stephen Hawking earlier today, and it reminded me of this passage from the Imitation of Christ.
“We find no absolute perfection in this world; always there is a background of imperfection behind our achievement; and so it is that our guesses at the truth can never be more than light obscured by shadow. The humble man’s knowledge of himself is a surer way to God than any deep researches into truth. No reason why we should quarrel with learning, or with any straightforward pursuit of knowledge; it is all good as far as it goes, and part of God’s plan. But always what we should prize most is a clear conscience, and holiness of life. How is it that there are so many people who put knowledge first, instead of conduct? It means that they are constantly at fault, and achieve little-- sometimes next to nothing. If only these people would take as much trouble to weed out their imperfections, and to cultivate good qualities, as they take over the learned theses they propound, we should hear less about sins and scandals, less about lax behavior in religious houses. After all, when the day of judgement comes we shall be examined about what we have done, not about what we have read; whether we have lived conscientiously, not whether we have turned fine phrases. Where are they now, Doctor This and Professor That, whom you used to hear so much about when they were alive, and at the height of their reputation? They have handed over their chairs to other men, who probably never waste a thought on them; while they lived, they counted for something, now they are never mentioned…”
Thinking, and intellectually understanding why we believe x, is a good thing! God gave us our brains and expects us to use them. But sometimes, the best way to find God is realizing our own smallness, but still asking him to give us what we need the most-- and then he touches us in a way that a thousand intellectual exercises could never accomplish. 💓

I really appreciate this! I just can’t seem to figure this out and yet everyone else can so I just figure I need to surrender and act in faith. It scares me to my core but I’m going to try!

Thank you for this I’m still frightened I’ll find nothing but I think it’s about surrender and I use intellectual fact and evidence as a crutch.

We figured it out at some point. Took me a couple years to act with my faith. Hopefully you stay and read through the forum still. No such thing as dumb questions, everyone needs reassurance. Faith and prayer is something good! I will recommend some scripture later for you 🙂

Just enjoy him 🙂 visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament and talk to him about your day, about your doubts, worries, and how you really wish to believe, or just sit with Him without saying anything. Keep Him company and let Him keep you company. Enjoy Him. Faith is a relationship with the person who loves you the most. Your questions are not dumb, and though I’m very new to CAF, I can tell that those who have helped you are not tired of answering you. That being said, I so understand the need to leave for a bit and seek silence ( I recently left all my social media). Best of luck! Please pray for me! Remember what St. Teresa used to say , prayer isn’t about thinking much, it’s about loving much!

No no everyone here is amazing! I’m just trying to let God have a crack at me!

I cannot tecommend it enough! There are saints who liken it to being in the sun. Even when it’s super cloudy and you can’t feel or see the sun, it’s still changing you. Find a perpetual adoration chapel near you or a church that you’d be allowed to go into visit with Our Lord. Go see Him and let Him love you. He’s waiting there for you 🙂 go find Him!
