Bringing baby to confession?

For a mom with no babysitter, is it OK/appropriate to bring a baby into the confessional?
 
You should ask your priest. Even if it is allowed, make sure he is comfortable with it.
 
I asked a priest that same question and he indicated that was fine.I have done it on a couple of occassions.

No problem as long as the baby isn’t old enough to understand what’s being said. Since you did say “baby” and not “small child” that’s probably the case. Don’t fret about it.
 
I’ve done so once or twice before when I was unable to find someone to watch the kid(s). The priests I confessed to were fine with it.
 
I’ve brought my baby twice and both priests were fine with it.

I think when your baby hits around 18 months, then it’s “iffy”…depends on the child’s ability to understand.
 
Umm…us fathers do it too, you know. It’s not just mothers who parent:rolleyes:

I’ve had as many as three (oldest is four) in confession. I gave it some serious consideration, but then felt that cleansing my soul of a mortal sin is more important then not going.

And it’s showing a good example to the older kids about going to confession. And I’ve never had a priest have a problem with it. I think most are happy that you are there, even if it’s harder to get there with the kids.

Though I do not say my penance at the church (if prayers are included), since I don’t want the kids bothering the other penitents after confession when we no longer need to be there.

Since the seal of the confessional applies to anyone who overhears another’s confession as well, make sure you explain excommunication to the baby also.😃
 
I can’t remember the last time I went to confession without a baby or toddler with me! As long as they don’t understand what I’m saying, it’s fine.
 
I have on a couple of occasions offered to watch the children of a parent who had brought their child(ren) along to confession. Perhaps you will see a friendly familiar face in line or nearby.
 
I’ve seen a woman bring her two small children with her into the confessional. I don’t know how old they were but they could’ve been from 3 yrs old to 10!

I didn’t stick around to see what happened.
 
I’ve had a number of confidential conversations at the edge of the playground where my kids were playing, and I bet a compassionate priest would be more than happy to hear your confession on a park bench. That works with kids older than toddlers 🙂

Well, maybe not “understand”, but little kids are tape recorders, aren’t they? You never know when they migh hit that “playback” button. 😃
