It has been suggested to me by some lay acquaintances that I might have scrupulous tendencies. Though I am not 100% sure that this is the case, the thought has crossed my mind independently as well. I have never discussed this with a priest, so I have never gotten a clerical perspective on whether this might be the problem.

Is the possibility of my being scrupulous something I need to mention at the beginning of confession, or do I let my confession speak for itself, trusting that if the priest thinks I am scrupulous based on it, he will let me know? At the moment, I am limited in my ability to have one regular confessor, so this is a conversation I might have to have more than once.

It’s something that you should bring up at the beginning of you confession so that the priest is aware of it. He can then make a judgment after listening to you. Having one priest is obviously helpful but not always essential - the idea is to stop the scrupulous from shopping around looking for what they want to hear or from confessing effectively the same thing to multiple priests. It also ensures consistency of advice as well as trust and accompaniment for the person on their faith journey. However, provided your willing to trust the advice given to you by the priest this shouldn’t be a problem provided he knows that you’re limited in your ability to stick to the one confesor and can tailor the advice accordingly.
