We want to get a home security system, but I’m still not sure what is best. I would apreaciate hearing anyone’s experience.

I had ADT for 10 years when I lived in the city. I never had any problem with their service. I would presume Brinks is comparable in service. So, I would suggest shopping based on price and features.

I had a wired ADT system, but then wireless came out and I upgraded. I would recommend the wireless system with remote entry-- I loved that!

Do a comparison based on their package prices, features, and monthly service fee including cancellation/renewal fees/timeframes.

Also check with different affinity groups you may belong to in order to see if they have an affiliation with one or the other company. For example, I had homeowner’s insurance through USAA and they had a program with ADT for discounted installation and monthly fee. Perhaps your insurance company does too or some other group you are a member of-- a union, AARP, AAA, credit card company, credit union, etc.

Interesting thread. I will watch the replies. Because I’ve been thinking of switching from our current monitoring provider.

We had a false alarm one day, about a year ago… caused by faulty wiring. When I finally got the alarm shut off… I waited… and waited… and WAITED for them to call us, to see if we needed assistance.

No call came. So, I called them. Their response… “Your alarm sounded?”

They had no clue. We could have needed help… and they had no clue. 🤷

We have ADT and we love it! They are always on top of things and ready to respond.

Their salespeople keep coming over to try to sell us the service, though. The don’t get that we already have it, despite our signs and stickers. That’s a local thing, though, not a corporate issue, so I really don’t have any complaints about the service itself.

we’ll my home is protected by remington, specifically a couple 870 expresses. however my parents, my sister, and my sister in law all have adt and are quite happy

I have had Brinks for about 10 years and have been very happy with them.

My installer (not sales guy) said that he thought wired was much better than wireless. I agreed. The wireless would have been a bit cheaper then… I “upsold” myself on a few features - I knew what I wanted.

Does anyone know how much it costs to buy one of those security systems, and what are the monthly fees like? DH and I are looking to buy a house and the city we live is pretty high crime. Houses routinely get broken into even in relatively nice areas. I can only see crime getting worse as times get harder. I’m thinking it may be a good idea to put one of those in our future home. I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure!

ETA: Answered my own question…went to ADT’s website and the basic systems run about $300 with a $35/month monitoring fee. It might be worth it for the peace of mind.

I got free installation b/c the company was trying to promote their product. 2 yr monitoring contract. These companies look out for new home buyers like yourself. ask for promotional specials.
