We have to be prepared for increasing pressure in these areas. But there is nothing new about his proposal. It is just a redux of the German approach leading up to WWII, the disabled merely being younger. The thought that it is proper, in a scientific and evolutionary sense, to eliminate the disabled and mentally ill was prevalent throughout the civilized world during the same era, including the US. The resulting slaughter of the concentration camps sufficiently shocked the sensibilities of modern society that the movement was sidetracked, but, I think, never shelved. Ironic, isn’t it, that the British who confronted and defeated the Nazi regime and ideology would resurrect one of its key tenets. Or shouldl I say diabolical.
