Priest Advises a “Brokeback Lent”, Homily Encourages Propaganda Film

BOSTON, March 7, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The homosexual propaganda film Brokeback Mountain, besides winning three Oscars over the weekend, has shown itself as an adept tool for outing dissidents within the Catholic Church. While committed Catholics have seen in the film as a dangerous propaganda tool which normalizes homosexuality, left-leaning Catholics have been hard-pressed to outdo one another in lauding the film.

First, the director for the USCCB Office for Film and Broadcasting Harry Forbes gushed over Brokeback saying, "Director Ang Lee tells the story with a sure sense of time and place, and presents the narrative in a way that is more palatable than would have been thought possible.” (the review was substantially altered after LifeSiteNews.com exposed it lifesite.net/ldn/2005/dec/05121607.html) Also, a prominent Dominican Leader, Rev. Tom Condon, student master for St. Martin de Porres Province of the Dominicans, lauded the film as “an engrossing story, a plea for tolerance, and a sad, emotional film that will touch anyone who has ever been in love.” ( lifesite.net/ldn/2006/feb/06020703.html)

Shortly thereafter, the liberal associate editor of Canada’s largest Catholic newspaper – the archdiocese of Toronto’s Catholic Register, extolled the films portrayal of the homosexual acts saying, “When the gay cowboy lovers first discover a way to be authentic with each other - truthful about their basic sexual attractions and the source of their happiness in each other - they achieve a resemblance to truth itself." (lifesite.net/ldn/2006/feb/06021508.html)

Finally, the new Archbishop of San Francisco, whose installation was appreciatively received by the homosexual community, called the film “very powerful”. (lifesite.net/ldn/2006/feb/06021306.html)

An example of many of our clergy and hierarchy embracing modernism. Goes to show you how the media and Hollywood love to manipulate and mislead many Catholics.

Rev. Loftus proposed, contrary to Catholic teaching, that sexual sin is not real sin, whereas not giving in to one’s desires is sin. “For too many of us, what we think of as ‘our sinfulness,’ our not yet even being the full human beings we are created to become, remains a paltry and cheap catalogue of peccadillos, usually having something to do with sex or not being ‘charitable’ toward each other. Those so-called ‘sins’ are hardly worth setting aside 40 days each year to ponder; those sins of yours or mine are hardly worth mentioning, really.” Loftus continued, “There is something much bigger at stake here than my petty sinfulness, my unkindness, my frustrated sex life, or my infuriating love life. The sin that is before us always is our refusal to grow into the freedom for which we were born.”
What does any of that mean?

This review excerpt reads like a quote from the devil’s training manual on how to mimic and create the illusion of truth as a strategy to get folks to buy a lie.

And a strategy to lead souls down to Hell.

Those are not cowboys. They are sheepmen!

And we are supposed to look up to these priests and bishops as our spiritual leaders? I believe they are leading people down the road to hell, all in the name of tolerance. I will not follow them.

I think people need to stop knocking on Archbishop Niederauer for calling the film “very powerful”. It doesn’t imply that he likes or approves of the movie. I think it’s his objective analysis of the film and its effects. Just like if someone says “the September 11th attacks were powerful acts”, it doesn’t mean that they condone crashing planes into buildings.

A homily by J.A. Loftus, S.J. last Ash Wednesday

“The consequence of not being free is sin. I suspect many in this community have already seen Brokeback Mountain. If not see it; if you have, see it again and reflect on the consequences of not being interiorly free, the consequences of not knowing who you really are and want to become, the tragic consequences and subsequent devastation that comes from only living in a “pretend” world. Watch carefully the price of dishonesty in yourself and with those whom you try to love.”
Code:
" Let this Lent be a Brokeback Lent. Let yourself feel genuinely dreadful at just how little you accept God’s invitation to be yourself, to be honest, to live more freely, to love more passionately, to even be prepared to die for those whom you love. So hold on to both pockets of your jacket and don’t ever forget both messages. Because while you are not the fully human being God created you to become, yet for you, this entire, magical and sacred world was made. Welcome to the hard journey we call Lent..."

GAG.
This is so clearly the devil speaking. “Just free yourself, sin freely, proudly, honestly and often.”
Again, GAG.

BTW, I didn’t see the movie, but I read the spoiler online. I’m begging you, PLEASE do not take the good father’s advice to see the movie (not that I think any one’s tempted to). You will want to dig your eyes out of your brain.

Is this for real??? I hardly see how going to watch a movie about 2 men living in sin will help us during lent. Seems like we should be avoiding this sort of thing and focusing on God during lent. I hope this was a joke.

Unfortunately, its not a joke. Its the Jesuits at their finest. Can we start a petition for the suppression of their order?

I must say that Jebby is on to something. This whole BrokeBack Mountain thing has been one big penance and mortification for me! :banghead:

Also, from what I’ve read about the movie, it does show that the wages of sin is death!! 👍

Saint Ignatius, intercede for your order! :gopray2:

So then the wages of watching this movie would be death I guess.

I understand that this is meant to be ironic, but let us not forget those members of the Company who truly do represent the Jesuits at their finest. Fathers Pacwa and Fessio come to mind as prime examples today, as did the late Fr. Hardon. If you do start this petition of supression, can you do so selectively so that Fathers Fessio, Pacwa and other men of their caliber are exempt?

Did anyone else think this was ironic that it came from Boston? Is Boston the pinnacle of christian piety and repentance? I would not waste my money going to this movie! As for the actual message he was trying to get across…yes this is what can happen when we ignore the fact that true freedom is freedom from sin not to sin. In a way, he has a point but I wouldn’t pay money to support a movie that has a bad message just to prove that point to myself.

Or maybe we could have them constitute a new order, the new and improved old fashioned Jesuits? There are a dozen or so Jesuits out there in the world who believe in God and at least most of what the Church teaches (and a few like Frs. Pacwa, Fessio, and Hardon who believe all of what the Church teaches). So I think we could take all of the good ones and put them in one house and then just supress the rest.

Yes, we must pray on our knees for the light of the Holy Spriit to cleanse and heal our Church!

Do you think it will be worth sending our feedback to John Allan Loftus, S.J ?(this is how he calls himself, no “Fr” before the name-- guess that is the Jesuit style? He is called the “director” instead of parish priest and also the “presider” at Mass as was noted his Ash Wednesday homily). I just caution that if anyone will send him an email, it must be in true Christian love and dignity as he is God’s priest.

His email address is l: info@jucboston.org
