I just read a short excerpt this morning when I got my haircut in “O” magazine. Oprah wants to do a Brokeback Mountain type of movie with two women. She even has the women picked out. I wanted to gag!

You know Oprah is Liberal. As tired as I am of saying these things, no one forced you to read it and no one is forcing you to see the film. I doubt it is going to be advertised on stations or in front of movies your children see. Really, if you can’t handle the fact that people are going to get to do things you don’t like, and just ignore it and move on…well, you’re going to be awful unhappy.

The last movie I actually saw in a theater was The Passion.

Before that, Saving Private Ryan.

Before that, Titanic.

That shows you how often I go to movie theaters.

I’m doing my part. How about everybody else??? 😉
For Christmas, 2004, the kids got us tickets to a local theater. This year,2005, they got us more tickets. We haven’t used any of them yet, and from seeing prevues of the upcoming movies, we probably won’t. I don’t have time to watch trash.

What? You are lecturing me? LOL. My children are plenty old enough to see even “R” rated movies. I do hate that the popular choices in Hollywood right now are all gay activist movies however. I still want to gag when I think of a female Brokeback Mountain. Maybe they can show a gut wrenching movie about women breaking up their families and going off to live with their lesbian lovers.

I for sure won’t go to see it, and that was never in question. You are aware that there are some people that think Oprah is a sort of religion for the uncathechised? Well that used to make me laugh. I am starting to think that she is preaching now!

Are you still tired of listening to an opinion that is not your own. So sorry and I will say a prayer it gets better for you reading these forums.

As far as me being unhappy, sorry but you can’t lay that on me when I just made a simple comment on what “O” says about Oprah.

Are you joking? If I didn’t want to listen to opinions that aren’t my own, I wouldn’t be here.

Good, then do you understand Hollywood agenda makes me gag and I don’t go to see movies that are pushing their agenda? I can say this on a Catholic forum without fear of being reprimanded. There are few other places that I can.

And yet you want people to just accept that Hollywood is pushing an agenda by paying attention to movies you don’t like.

So there is no agenda and it is conincidence that many of the nominated films are gay centered fim? I don’t buy that and neither do some film critics.

And here you’re comparing movies that took a lot more to make. Apples and oranges.
Not when you do the math and come up with a pure number devoid of units.

The Passion of the Christ cost about $25M, and took in about $27M on opening day .

That, by the way, is only about twice the cost of Brokeback. Neither qualifies as a megabucks cost blockbuster.

The Return of the King is probably the most profitable movie investment of all time. Including marketing costs, it made a 1408% profit over the original investment from New Line Studios. Comparatively, The Blair Witch Project (including marketing costs of $25 million) made a profit of 992% and Titanic, the highest grossing film of all time, made a profit of 768% over production and marketing costs.

Apples and Oranges my left foot! But even so, if you do the math, you can make comparisons among varieties of fruit.

By comparison, Brokeback is a film that the movie establishment may be going all gaa-gaa over, but, by comparison, a movie that not that many have seen.

Blessings,

Gerry
