Broken Rosaries

Cord rosaries are durable, but as a man who prays the Rosary daily and keeps it in my pocket always with my keys. The durability is around 1 year before the cord frays and breaks in some spot or one or more the wooden beads cracks and/or falls off. I do my best to fix em’ up with ‘cable ties’. Tops if even that, with repairs , I can get 18 maybe 24 months.

Knotted Rosary
Right now I’m gearing up to make my own knotted rosaries. The knotted rosaries can be made yourself at 60 cents a piece if you buy a roll of cord. Should be more durable, significantly less costly, and are easy enough to make yourself.

And trust me! All you ‘Rosary Warriors’ are going to have plenty of real opportunities in the near future to be handing out rosaries and teaching others to pray it. Prepare!

The rosary left to me by my Great Great Aunt - one day the crucifix was missing…it’s very old and has a lot of meaning so I kept it and still carried it around with me. A month later- it fell apart and I repaired it… It fell apart again. I still carry it around with me, is that okay?

Also, I purchased two more rosaries back in March at the same time because I couldn’t make up my mind and liked them both… They both fell apart within 1 -2 weeks. I had one repaired which lasted about 2 weeks; about a week and it came apart again. So, I repaired it and then suddenly more than half of it was
gone. . . ( I will admit that due to some difficult times -I had been sleeping with one of them on… And if I’m going to be completely honest . . . Sometimes during the day if it was more stressful than other, but I did always try and make certain it was tucked under my blouse so no one would think it was a jewelry statement) I thought as long as you weren’t wearing it as jewelry-like a diamond cross necklace- that was okay? )

Why do they keep falling apart? I know they don’t “make things like they did”… But, three in three months? Would I be better spending a couple of hundred on one instead?

The problem is your hanging chain-Rosaries around. The Rosaries that have chain are usually very weak, even if you buy expensive ones, so it’s always better to keep those in a Rosary pouch. I carry around a Rosary around my waist everyday, but it has rope instead of chain. It’s ten times stronger and they’re usually much less expensive. I’m ashamed to say that I do not know how to pray the rosary properly and will be learning how to do so… I’ve held it in prayer for over 15 years… I guess it all bugged me due to some other odd things. This- being the least of them… So, I’m certain it’s not for them having been treated/ rubbed too harshly or tossing around… I guess I really freaked out when I found the crucifix and another part of the rosary smashed in someone’s driveway today and having known where and when the last one went missing, where I’ve been, etc… Guess I lumped it with all the really weird stuff and totally freaked out today - making a mountain out of a molehill!

There are many highly inexpensive booklets that you can buy at the store in your cathedral or at any Catholic bookstore. They usually have the mysteries with pictures on them to help you understand what you’re meditating about, and they usually have a piece of scripture to help you meditate on it. The most expensive one I’ve seen is four dollars, so they’re not too bad.

Anyway, this site therosarylady.com/wood_and_natural_rosaries.htm has been around about twenty years and I have had my buri nut rosary almost that long. I’ve slept with it, on it, stepped on it getting out of bed, worn it, everything. This is a prayer ninjas rosary! I think most of hers are.

For a smaller rosary I really love, get stainless steel. I know, sounds weird, but I loved mine so much.

Try a rosary from the vatican library collection they are extremely durable in my opinion and well made since mine tend to fall apart from prayer I’ve found these and the adore mentioned cord rosaries the best

I have a lot of trouble at night with anxiety and insomnia and I also wear my rosary to bed as a comfort-and I haven’t had a problem with mine falling apart-it may be the materials that they are made out of or it could be that it wasn’t put together as carefully as it should have been-and I don’t believe that you need to spend anything like a hundred dollars to get one that will stay together. I have an online rosary business myself and I make sure that my rosaries stand up to repeated use-I hate the idea of someone spending their hard earned money on something only to have to replace it a few months down the road! I also do repairs on rosaries that my customers already own as I know how it is to get attached to something like a rosary. Mass produced rosaries are cheaply made because if they are pulled the links will open. It is worth buying a handmade rosary that is made with durable wire. Rosaries made with 49 strand Jewelers wire (flexible wire —beaded rosary) are very strong and the wire does not easily break. They are affordable, because they do not take that long to make. But find a rosary made be an experienced artisan because the strength of the rosaries lies in the crimping at the ends of the wire.

If you can afford a little more for labor, the handmade rosaries made with thick gauge wire are practically indestructible. For instance 21 gauge solid stainless steel rosaries will not pull apart and this is the strongest rosary wire available. A close second is solid bronze wire in 20 gauge. These produce heirloom quality rosaries that are amazing.

I began making my own rosaries; one style is a knotted 18 ga. Nylon cord with beads, very strong, short length and flexible; the second type is a wrapped wire and bead rosary, wrapping the wire rather than just looping it makes it very strong but tends to make the rosary a bit long. I use a metal center medal and crucifix for both style, never cared much for knotted crosses or plastic centers. I like the sound of the cable and bead rosary, think I’ll make one next.
