On saturday my favorite rosary broke. It was an antique I got from an old family member years ago. One of the links on the chain broke, and the broken link fell off somewhere in my church so I can’t fix it. The crucifix is quite nice, so its now on a chain around my neck.

How do I dispose of a broken rosary?
 
I would say that if this is your favorite rosary - why not try getting it fixed first.

If you are still are looking to discard it I believe that one option would be to bury it (in your yard) - obviously somewhere where it will most likely stay buried. Another option would be just to put it in a small bag and store it. There might be one day when you would like to fix it. I know that I have used older rosary parts to make new rosaries either for my use or the use of others.

Is the rest of the rosary intact? No missing beads? If it’s just a separation in the chain, here’s what I do. Do you get those little paper covered twist ties at the grocery store when you buy produce in a plastic bag? I take one of the twist ties, strip off the paper (gotta be careful because the ends of the bare wire are sharp) and thread the wire through the two separated links and twist it to join them, then cut off the excess wire, making sure that no sharp ends are sticking out.(Needle-nosed pliers help.) I know this sounds a bit tacky, but it works. Of course, if it’s a antique rosary, maybe you’ll want a more professional repair.

You can get it fixed. We fix Rosaries at my shop all the time. We don’t usually charge to fix them, oh, let me correct myself, we do charge, we “Charge” the customer with Praying a Rosary for our business and staff and their families. God Bless.🙂
 
You might also try asking around your parish to see if there’s a rosary maker. If so, they might be able to repair the broken chain or they might be able to use the beads, medal and crucifix and re-“string” the beads into a new rosary.

It’s not impossible to fix them. I recently inherited a rosary blessed by John XXIII that was missing a crucifix and was broken. It took some searching but I was able to find replacement parts and repair the rosary.

I volunteer at making rosaries for Rosary Army, & so I know! I have only once had anything happen, and that was when I fell asleep praying, and one part became attached to the blanket, and another became even more attached to:blush: my cat… The jump ring that holds the crucifix bent open. I bent it back together, & it is:thumbsup: 👍 perfect again!! (Should have used a split ring. Those would even survive that kind of encounter!)
