Brotherhrolf help!

I was transported right to heaven this morning by our Latin Mass. We had a choir of nuns (in Tradtitional habits) & I believe that it was a Missa Cantata because their were no deacons or subdeacons in the Sanctuary. It was prayed by a visiting FSSP priest who conducted a mission at our Church this week & the whole Mass was sung. The priest chanted/sang the Mass & the nuns sang the responses. The congregation was blessed with Holy Water, the Altar incensed, etc.

However, as I calculated how long it had been since I’d been able to attend either a Miss Cantata or a Solemn High Mass, the last time was around 1963…44 yrs. ago. So, I was a bit lost & realize how people feel who attend their first Latin Mass.

Our regular priest assisted & was vested in Traditional altar server
vestments. This is what makes me believe that it was a Missa Cantata as I think Father would have vested himself as a deacon, if it wasn’t.

I had forgotten how beautiful this Mass is, no wonder you travel a bit to assist.

When I saw 30 nuns, dressed in traditional habits…postulants with white veils & those who had taken their vows in black…process up to the Communion rail, it brought tears to my eyes. There was a reception after Mass & there wasn’t a nun over 30 in the whole bunch.

BTW. Is there a web site that features a Missa Cantata. I need to take my missal & study it, so that next time I’m sure about all that is happening & when it’s happening? My memory doesn’t seem to be as great as I thought. I stayed with the priest through the Gospel, but got rather lost before the Roman Canon. I think I was reading too fast, as the sung Mass used to take more time.
 
I’m sure Brotherhrolf would have loved it. Who knows, he may even have watched it from Heaven.

(speaking of which, your dramatic title and first sentence scared me there for a moment! :eek: :p)

In case you or anyone else hasn’t read in the other forums, Brotherhrolf passed away last Saturday at the Hour of Divine Mercy. 😦

Thank you so much. Another poster informed me of his death just a few minutes ago. I had no idea. I’d been away from the forums for several days. Brotherhrolf was my best friend on these forums & I couldn’t WAIT to share my experience of a Missa Cantata with him.

Oh My…I was totally unaware of this…he was a dear friend of mine. We both went to St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Baton Rouge…he was talking about visiting Charleston sometime in the fall and we were going to grab some dinner and visit The Citadel…I am just dumbfounded. We must pray for the repose of his soul and for his family.

Leonard, you were a wonderful friend, mentor and I will surely miss speaking with you…I hope you will intercede for me. God Bless You…Love you brother

I will pray for the repose of his soul. This is sad news for many of us on CAF who were his friends.

One can only hope they have as many people praying for them when they pass as Leonard has for himself. He touched so many people.

De profundis.

Very sad to hear about Brotherhrolf’s passing. Let us all resolve to offer up our Lenton prayers, fastings, and sacrifices for the repose of his soul. He will appreciate it.

“Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis. In memoria æterna erit justus, ab auditione mala non timebit”. (Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord: and let perpetual light shine upon them. He shall be justified in everlasting memory, and shall not fear evil reports.)

Brotherhrolf fought a good fight and kept the faith. May God grant unto him his eternal reward.
 
Instead of deleting this thread, it is a fitting tribute to our brother and shows how many lives he touched through this one aspect of his life. In the other thread, his son came and expressed his appreciation for the outpouring of affection for our dear brother in the Lord.
 
I’ll leave the thread up for now. Please be careful about sharing too much personal information about another member, even one who is deceased (may he rest in peace).

That’s fine. It seems to be turning into a memorial to him & there is nothing I’d rather do. This is a loss not only to some of us personally…but to CAF. as a whole.
 
I really liked reading what he had to say. Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirt!

you are very blessed to have the EF of the Latin Liturgy. Our parish would never offer it to anybody. In fact, many seem to ‘mock’ even the thought of having one.
 
Thanks for asking the question on this cradlecath. With Brother mentioning the Missa Cantata so often I have tried to remember whether I ever experienced one. I remember many High Masses, though I usually served at the early morning low Mass once I became an altar server, but I truly don’t remember if I ever attended a Missa Cantata.

I too can be counted among those who will truly miss Brother. Though he and I did not share worship style preferences we have had the greatest respect and brotherhood since I first encountered him in the club threads. He was a great man and I can only find comfort in at least knowing he passed quietly in his sleep.

I’m certain Brotherhrolf would be pleased if you grabbed his torch and continued to defend tradition on this forum.
