Brown Scapula

I may be asking in this in the wrong place or the wrong way but how do you go about getting the prayer of the brown scapula. From what I understand wearing it requires a blessing from a priest.
Do all priests know this prayer? Is it a long or short process. If I went up to a priest after daily mass would he bless my scapula and say the prayers for me or would I need an appointment? Just not sure what to do.

Unfortunately a lot of priests don’t know the formal blessing. When I first came back to the Church I asked several priests about the brown scapular and they gave a quick, general sign of the cross blessing over it. I didn’t want to press the issue or argue with them, so I just smiled, thanked them and walked away. The pastor at my parent’s parish who was very “progressive” to the point of removing the confessionals in the church, looked at me like I was crazy.

Finally, I found an ICKSP parish and the priest blessed it and enrolled me in the confraternity. The whole process from what I remember was two minutes and he told me to pray the rosary every day to fulfill the obligation and follow the other conditions.

So I would say try to find a traditional priest ICKSP or FSSP. If that’s not possible I’d print this out freebrownscapular.com/brown_scapular_enrollment.html
and give it to the priest you want to enroll you in it. I think if I had the blessing with me when i asked the other priests they wouldn’t have had a problem with it, except for the one at my parent’s parish.

Yes, you are correct that there is a special blessing, called an investiture, which enrolls you in your brown scapular. I was greatly blessed to have a Carmelite priest as my pastor who invested me in my first scapular. Once you have that, any future scapular used as a replacement when the first wears out does not need the prayer repeated. Wear Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s brown scapular as a pledge of your faithfulness and a sign of salvation.
 
forgotten, but important:
Any priest armed with the correct prayer may invest you. It does not have to be a Carmelite.
