Do you have to have some kind of ceremony first in order to receive its associated graces or can you just get one from someplace and start to wear it?

If you do have to have a ceremony, how would one be in that? Thanks. 🙂
I have always been a bit perplexed by this enrollment business.

How does one arrange for an enrollment --would you just walk up to your priest and ask to be enrolled? At any time, or on a First Saturday? Will they even know what you’re talking about? Or would it be better to call for an appointment?

To my knowledge, nobody in my family has ever been “enrolled” in the Brown Scapular, but we do have new scapulars blessed. And now that I think about it, sometimes the priest will ask who the scapular is for, and then they incorporate the name into the blessing. I wonder if such blessings count as an enrollment?

I’d be interested to hear what others have done.

I was enrolled during a special service on the feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel. The rest of my family were enrolled by our parish priests on several different occasions. Yes, we just walked up to them after a Sunday Mass and asked for the scapular to be blessed and to be enrolled. Words for the enrollment came with the scapular in a little booklet. We used Holy Water from our little bottle that we fill up to bring home. Even the formal service only took a few minutes and was actually during during daily Mass that day.

I don’t know about other scapulars, but in order to receive all the graces associated with the brown scapular you do need to be enrolled.

I went into the sacristy after mass and asked the priest. He enrolled me right there and then because I had the prayers that came with the scapular with me. I also attended a group enrollment after a mass once because I happened to be there. Hey, can’t hurt. 🤷
