Hello~
If I wish to be invested with the Brown Scapular, how do I go about finding a priest who is authorized to do the formal investiture?

–As a postscript, I see that the scapular is supposed to be made of wool, as a remembrance of Jesus, the Lamb of God. The one I purchased today is felt. Is felt invalid or simply less traditional?

Thanks!😃

In theory, any priest can do it. In practice, it’s best to ask a priest who seems to you to be very “traditional” in his practices and in his way of saying the Mass, since he is more likely to know how to do it.

As long as you’ve got the leaflet (comes with most scapulars) with the prayers on it to give the priest, you should be fine with any priest.

By the way, in answer to the second question the felt would actually be wool, it’s just processed in a different way from normal woolen cloth 🙂

I got the investiture today by a priest whose order runs the confraternity that I belong to.
