Brown Scapular: How to live out the commitment?

Dear all,

My husband and I will shortly be enrolling in the confraternity of the Carmelite order and we’re looking forward to wearing the brown scapular.

We wanted to make this commitment and I’ve looked at the ‘requirements’ that go with being a distant part of the Carmelite family, albeit in a (very) lay capacity!

We already pray the rosary each day, and it also recommends the ‘Little Office’.

We’re a young couple- no children yet- and work; but we do have time during the day as well as evenings.

I wanted to get the views of other people; how do you live out your brown scapular devotion? Do you find certain prayers helpful, and when are good times for you to pray these?

Hi skippykerrie,

You can pray the Rosary or the Little Office. If you look again at the requirements you can do one or the other. 🙂

I would just pray the prayers wherever you can fit them in for you–whatever is convenient for your own schedule.

You can also pray the “Liturgy of the Hours” instead of the Little Office.
