I still need to get enrolled in the Brown Scapular and have read on this site that you can ask to substitute the Little Office with the Rosary, how do I ask this of the priest that enrols me? What if he isn’t sure?

Thanks.

Considering how widespread the Brown Scapular is, he will probably know.

I just asked and he said yes.

Don’t worry. God loves you. Literally. It is His will that you make it to Heaven!

I could be wrong, but I would be greatly surprised if even one soul who prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Rosary every day were to perish in eternity. The only way I could imagine that happening is if they intentionally continued in sin. As if they said “I will pray these and continue in sin.” With Holy Confession, the Holy Eucharist, and all the graces obtained through the two, and all of the graces obtained by praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Rosary, that soul should try not to worry. God is merciful.

The current and authoritative Carmelite catechesis on the Brown Scapular is this:

carmelitanacollection.com/catechesis.php

Neither the Little Office nor the Rosary are “requirements”. It does state, however, that we need to practice, to a degree, Carmelite spirituality, The catechesis includes, as an introductory list:
  • frequent participation in the Mass and reception of Holy Communion;
  • frequent reading of and meditation on the Word of God in Sacred Scripture;
  • the regular praying of at least part of the Liturgy of the Hours;
  • imitation of and devotion to Mary, the woman of faith who hears the Word of God and puts it into practice;
  • the practice of the virtues, notably charity, chastity (according to one’s state of life), and obedience to the will of God.
