Today I bought a brown scapular at a Catholic religous store. After church tonight, I asked our priest to bless the scapular. He said a few words ( I couldn’t hear them), and made the sign of the cross over the scapular.

From what I’ve seen on here and according to the pamplet in the scapular package, there is a ritual that one is supposed to go through in order to be “invested.”

My question: is the blessed scapular enought to be ‘invested’ in the order, or do I need to go through the whole ritual to be properly invested?

Thank you for your answers.

People are enrolled in the Scapular only once by a priest or authorized person.

PROCEDURE FOR THE BLESSING AND INVESTITURE
THE BROWN SCAPULAR OF OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL

Priest - Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy.
Respondent - And grant us Thy salvation.
P - Lord, hear my prayer.
R - And let my cry come unto Thee.
P - The Lord be with you.
R - And with your Spirit.
P - Lord Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, sanctify by Thy
power these scapulars, which for love of Thee and for love of Our Lady of Mont Carmel, Thy servants will wear devoutly, so that through the intercession of the same Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and protected against the evil spirit, they persevere until death in Thy grace. Thou who liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen.
Code:
THE PRIEST DOES THE ASPERSION AND INVESTS PERSONS SAYING:

P - Receive this blessed scapular and beseech the Blessed Virgin that through Her merits, you may wear it without stain. May it defend you against all adversity and accompany you to eternal life. Amen.

AFTER INVESTITURE THE PRIEST CONTINUES WITH THE PRAYERS:

P - I, by the power vested in me, admit you to participate in all the spiritual benefits obtained through the mercy of Jesus Christ by the Religious Order of Mont Carmel.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

May God Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and earth, bless you, He who has deigned to join you to the Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of Mont Carmel; we beseech Her to crush the head of the ancient serpent so that you may enter into possession of your eternal heritage through Christ our Lord.
 R - Amen.
Short form of giving the scapular

Receive this Scapular, a sign of your special relationship with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, whom you pledge to imitate. May it be a reminder to you of your dignity as a Christian in serving others and imitating Mary. Wear it as a sign of her protection and of belonging to the family of Carmel, voluntarily doing the will of God and devoting yourself to building a world true to his plan of community, justice and peace.

THE ROSARY AND THE SCAPULAR ARE INSEPARABLE. PRAY THE ROSARY DAILY.

That’s what I thought. So how do I find someone who can invest me in it?

Any priest can do it. Just print out the procedure I posted and find a priest who will do it.

We kept having the same issue. Both my husband & I got our scapulars and when we would take them to a priest, they would bless them, but now “invest us”.

Finally, last week I took the pamphlet with the rite to a priest and explained what we wanted. He very graciously agreed to pray off the pamphlet and authorized us to substitute a Daily Rosary for the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Today is our 1 week anniversary of being enrolled in the Scapular! 🙂

Good luck!

Good!

I’m just wondering - is it proper to wear a blessed scapular without being “invested” in it?

I do not know, but I sure hope so! My husband & I wore blessed scapulars for more than a year prior to being enrolled. 🙂

Do you know if this is available on line?
A quick search brought up one site, catholicmart.com which carries it. The site describes itself as “traditional Catholic.” After a brief glance at their inventory I couldn’t find anything that indicated they are not in communion with Rome.
I’ve not dealt with them before so I can’t give either a recommendation or a nonrecommendation.

Otherwise, call ICS Publications and order over the phone.
