Brown Scapular Wearers

I have been thinking of joining the confraternity of the Brown Scapular. I have been doing some researching and I am very confused about the daily obligations. Some of the things I have seen say that you should say three Hail Mary’s a day… some say a daily Rosary is recommended… still others mention that divine office is required. Can anyone enlighten me or recommend where I can find the proper guidelines?

Hey, I wear the Brown Scapular…it is the best deal in the world. I lifed the following from a little write up that is always included in the package with the Brown Scapular’s I buy:

The Blessed Virgin of Mt. Carmel has promised to save those who wear the scapular from the fires of hell; She will also shorten their stay in Purgatory if they should pass from this world still owning some temporal debt of punishment.

 This promise is found in a Bull of Pope XXII.  The Blessed Virgin appeared to him and speaking of those who wear the Brown Scapular said:  "I, Mother of Grace, shall decend on the Saturday after their death and whomsoever I shall find in Purgatory, I shall free, so that I may lead them to the holy mountain of life everlasting."

 The Blessed Virgin assigned certain conditions which must be fulfilled:

1. Wear the Brown Scapular continuously.
2. Observe chastity according to one’s state in life. (Married/single.)
3. Recite the daily “Little Office of the Blessed Virgin.”
   Or, A) To observe the fasts of the church together with abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
   Or, B) With the permission of a Priest to say five decades of Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary.
   Or, With permission of a Priest to substitute some other good work.

Note: You cannot substitute for the first two two conditions: wearing the scapular; and, observing chastity.

 Pope Benedict XV, the celebrated World War I Pontiff granted 500 days indulgence for devoutly kissing your scapular.  Indulgence:  The remission in whole or in part for the temporal punishment due to sins.  (Remission of time spent in Purgatory.)

“THOSE WHO DIE WEARING THIS SCAPULAR SHALL NOT SUFFER ETERNAL FIRE!” OUR LADY TO ST. SIMON STOCK.

It seems like I haven’t been following the prayers correctly. I didn’t know about it. I’ve been wearing the Brown Scapular for about 5 months now. I normally pray using a Mt. Carmel praying card and recite the rosary.

Little Office of the Blessed Virgin prayers are beautiful.

I wear the brown scapular, but have not been properly invested yet. (Still a RCIA Candidate) However, I abstain from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
