Brown Scapular

Hello.

1. If a person was enrolled in the Brown Scapular some years back, and for the last year or so has not worn the Scapular (though saying the prayers), and has also failed to meet the criteria due to obstinate sinfulness, would that person, if thinking about trying again in meeting the conditions and wearing the Scapular, have to re-enrol, or have some special blessing by a priest beforehand (obviously, at the very least, confessing their total lack of commitment)?
2. Because it is said, that if a person loses or damages their Scapular, and then comes by a new one, that one does not need to have the new Scapular blessed, does this in fact mean, that the initial blessing in enrolment was on the person and not the item?

1. No, reenrollment would not be necessary. Once you’ve been enrolled, you’re enrolled.

Thank you. Scapular devotional criteria says we have to commit to living a certain way, so if re-enrolment is not necessary, and we have not lived a certain way, then it is time to attend confession as surely not committing to the criteria is a certain abuse of the Sacramental (over and above the sins being sins to confess in themselves) - is this correct?

And again, if one was not wearing the Scapular and more freely indulging in sinful behaviour, then because the blessing is on the person and not on the Scapular, whether one wears the Scapular or not, the sin still includes an abuse of the Sacramental?

Frairdchips,you should probably ask an apologist or Carmelite. I doubt that you need to be enrolled again. Sacramentals are supposed to help you focus on devotion not make you fearful of doing something wrong.

If you really think you have sinned you should go to your priest.

Hi. Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut. In this situation a priest would be the next step.

Although I think ‘fear’ plays a part, love is still the main ingredient; a lack of commitment, being the issue - the lack of showing gratitude.

I’d still like a response to my previous question if anyone knows the answer.
