Buddha in the Vatican

I keep thinking some of them are in V.C. and a couple of buildings owned by Buddhists (restaurants and shops not the sorta thing that would show up on a map but a Protestant would use to say Buddha in the Vatican!)

I appreciate your reply, but I feel that would be just a coincidence, since Josaphat is Biblical, being a variant of the name Jehosaphat(“Jehovah hath judged”, according to Davis Dictionary of the Bible).

If you saw “The Thinker” in the Vatican, then it would have been a replica. The original is in the Rodin Museum in Paris, which used to be the Hotel Biron.

I know how the Vatican Museums can become a blur after a while. There is so much to see and admire.

I know how it is. I know there isn’t supposed to be any running in the Vatican, or the museums, but you almost have to if you want to see everything. 😃

My only regret is not climbing to the top of the dome.

That is what I was thinking. I’ve been doing quite a bit of research, and that is all I can find. The pictures I have found are “questionable” at best.
 
That link was a complete non-sequiter. I’m not yelling conspiracy, but you don’t find it odd that somebody who supposedly had an extremely similar life to the Buddha, who lived in the same area, at about the same time, also has a name that could possibly be a corrupted form of (spelling wrong, I bet) Boddhisitvha? Except that they happen to be Catholic? And a Saint?

My general rule is not to believe in conspiracy theories. I don’t consider this a conspiracy. The link I gave was from a Catholic website. Almost (admittedly not all, but pretty close) every link I clicked on claimed St. Josaphat was a Catholic “version”, for lack of a better word, of the Buddha. This is a commonly held opinion, not a conspiracy.
 
I’ve heard of some very…unexpected things being able to be found in the Vatican (including a bowling alley/lane apparently) and given how widely travelled John-Paul II was, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was given a statue of Buddha at some point and being unable to get rid of it for political reasons, might have placed it somewhere in the Vatican Museum

My friend, the Vatican is all Catholic owned. Its population is 100% Catholic. Now, Rome, which is apart of Italy, does have synagogues and buddhist temples, but definately not the Vatican.

No, there is no statue of the Buddha in the Vatican. I am sure of it.

I think Arismal had the best comment, JPII could have very well been given a Buddha staute that did end up somewhere in the Vatican, maybe even in his private apartment.
I guess we will never really know for sure, will we?😛

that made me cringe… i cannot believe that that happend

no disrespect meant to the holy father obviously but i just didnt know that that was acceptable.

Don’t worry, it didn’t quite happen that way. The statue was behind the tabernacle – hardly my preference, but it was not on top of the tabernacle – you can’t have a statue of Mary or a relic of St. Peter on top of the tabernacle, for that matter.

Heh, I missed that post, thanks :). That is true! So true! It is possible…we will never know! 😃
 
Well, I am going to Rome this fall, and I will be sure to check it out…
