Buddhists i know have respect for Buddha and his statues. They do not worship the statue of Buddha.

It’s OK. BTW, did you know that there are saints Barlaam and Josaphat whose life is said to be based on Buddha? Their feast day is August 26 in the Orthodox Church and November 27 in the Catholic church.
