TROUT LAKE, Wash. — Kozen Sampson, a Buddhist monk and co-founder of the Trout Lake Abbey retreat, said he was attacked Monday during a visit to Hood River.
He doesn’t remember much, but says a man, who seemingly thought he was Muslim based on his clothing, attacked him for no reason.
“I pulled over, someone ran up and yelled. I turned around, they kicked the door, hit me in the side of the face and knocked my head into the frame of the car,” Sampson said. “I do remember [him yelling] an F bomb [about] Muslims, and that was it.”
But instead of anger and hatred towards that man, Sampson said he only feels forgiveness and compassion.

I have been wondering when something like this would happen, but thought it more likely to happen to Sisters who wear the black habit and vail. Let’s hope and pray not.

I was abused online today. Very upsetting. Told I was evil and to get out of a forum and that my religion was false. The persons both were Catholic and quoted some Bible verse saying to ‘hate evil’ and that I was that evil and a liar. they know I’m a Baha’i so they linked to a website saying our religion is false etc.

Romans 12:9

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. (Said I was that evil)

This is the website they quoted that we are from the ‘pits of hell’ how nice.

You won’t find on all the internet one Bahai website condemning Christianity and never ever will.

I thought Christ taught to love one another.

Very disappointing that religion is being used as a weapon against innocent people.

Catholics on Jesusissaviour.com? Not likely. Nice try though.

Wow, this story and associated comments really comes across as part of the tragedy is, the victim wasn’t Muslim. Implying a lesser tragedy if the victim were Muslim.

Sadly, no truer words were said dear sister.

God bless you for your acute spiritual insight 🙂

Thanks, but it is only because I have been reflecting on my own poor reactions. Having recently discovered I have associated the Arabic language, hearing people speak it, to strong emotions of repulsion. So I’m sorry to say, I think I have grown sensitive to what I recognize in myself. 😊

An even more praiseworthy quality in the sight of God Rebecca.

My family lives by the motto “Bring thyself to account each day, ere thou art summoned to a reckoning”

What you have done, and the fruits of your “bringing yourself to account” has assuredly aligned you into a more righteous relationship with our mutual Beloved 🙂

God bless you, and I will pray tonight for gratitude to God for gifting you with such insight. It’s a very courageous and humble act what you did 🙂

The forum was different to the website. The website was quoted in a post to me.

I never said the website was Catholic .
You have no idea what Jesusissaviour.com is do you? It is a viciously anti-Catholic site. Why would two “catholics”, even of a trad bent quote from a site like that? Makes no sense.
I ain’t buying it. Sorry.

It was Catholics on another forum which posted a link to that website. I’m not lying. They probably only used that link because it said Baha’is are evil.

Too true. This whole story just makes me shake my head.

I know that Sikhs in the US are also having many difficulties with violence against individuals because of their clothing, especially the turbans. I don’t know what we can do, to either educate people, or stop this cycle of anger.

I have used Sam Keen’s book Face of the Enemy as a teaching tool that helps us understand the need to demonize the ‘other.’ This is a human proclivity, I am afraid. We don’t learn from our mistakes.

I’ve been guilty in the past of challenging people who lived through the 1930’s in Europe. ‘Didn’t you see it coming? Why didn’t you do something before it got so bad?’ I guess the shoe’s on the other foot now.
